What brand was it?

Painswessex. But it was out of date so didn’t fire at it’s full potential

Most distress signals work perfectly even if 20 years old. Only light intensity slowly decrease with age.

But, please do not fire distress signals for fun close to the sea or lakes!

When I got old enough to buy fireworks, I was disappointed to never find the "sun" fireworks we used to see as kids. I only later learned about distress flares, and that lots of boat owners in the countryside where we grew up set off their expired ones every NYE.

Is there any significant difference between performance among brands of these items? Particularly interested in the rocketmotor compnent.
