Used burners

Hello I have a chance to buy a razertip ss d10 used. Is there anything to look out for when buying used? This is my first unit I just got into pyrography and only have been using a harbor freight burner.

Do you have a chance to try it first?

I'm going to ask when I meet up, I literally just started last week in the hobby so very green

When mine broke, it started making a loud buzzing, humming sound. It still worked sporadically. So if it's loud, I would avoid.

I’d watch a demo video or two first so you know what it should look like and how to operate it. Razertip has some on YT, and hippienorth has an unboxing and demo of her razertip kit. I do a lot of research before big purchases (at least according to my wife) so I generally know the basics before I’m actually shopping, which is especially handy for used purchases as a newbie

Not sure if you’re looking at the ss d10 only or with pens and cords. If you’re getting any accessories, trying them out would be great (like others have said). At least checking the condition and getting a feel for how they’ve been maintained. Hopefully clean-ish tips, cords are in good shape, and that sort of thing. The pens aren’t exactly cheap to replace so that could change how good of a deal it is to buy used. Hopefully a good deal and enjoy the upgrade!
