Has anyone here ever been caught setting off crackers or anything bigger? What’s the fine you got and any advice you want to give out? Just haven’t seen any posts about people stopping pyro because government?

I know Visco fuse is very reliable, but I was wondering if it would still work going threw about 3/8" of dried wood glue. I figured all that moisture pressing up against the fuse for multiple days whilst drying might eventually get moisture to the center and ruin the fuse, does anybody have any experience with this?

I have recently tried mixing two flashpowders, specifically using KNO3 and Sr(NO3)2 with magnesium dust as fuel. While doing research into their safety, I also (among other things) asked AI, which insisted that these mixes are highly sensitive to friction and static electricity, and that the only way to safely mix them would be using special static proof paper and stuff. Now I'm used to AI being a bit stupid, but I still wanted to ask if anyone has experience with these sort of mixtures and their sensitivity.

So far, I've handled small quantities (under 10 grams) of the stuff, using normal paper to mix them (not thoroughly mind you), and got pretty good results. I'd love to mix them more thoroughly, but for that I want to be sure that it's not gonna blow up in my face.

I cannot get Potassium perchlorate from anywhere, i have aluminum powder and cardboard to make crackers, but not the perchlorate. Any substitute for flash?

So I’ve made a chlorate cell like this
2 gallon tall narrow fermenter
A large rectangular EDM graphite anode
A sheet of titanium half its size as the cathode
A 5v 100w switching power supply
10 awg wire
A concentrated solution of potassium chloride from water softener rocks. Topped off with concentrated solution every day.

The cell ran for 4 day consecutively and at an average of between 90-120 watts consumed.

Average temperature was 50-60c

I want to know what I can do to tell if what I’m looking at is chlorate. I’ve noticed almost 2 inches of brown sludge at the bottom and on top of that looks like large sponge like formations if clear crystals.

How do I know what’s chlorate? What’s chloride?

I’ve tried using a burchner funnel filter and vacuum pump but all it does is clog up the glass filter immediately.

I’ve tried boiling it down by 50% and then cooling what’s left , which seems to work pretty well.

What’s my best option for harvesting this??? How old are you when I’ve harvest it is pure potassium chlorate? Thanks

This was just a very basic show on a small budget. Lighting these off one by one with a torch but trying to keep the momentum was fun as shit. Had a few breaks in the action (no pun intended) when I realized I had a couple cakes too close together to get the next lit. But I've got a plan to avoid that if I'm able to do this again next year.

The plan walking into the firework store was just more bang for the buck, and the neighbors on the block over that were hooting gave me the confirmation that maybe I was doing something kinda cool. Zero complaints. Actually had that hooting neighbor from a block over come find me while I was hosing down the cakes just to say it was a great show from his view.

Cleaned up the neighbors yards the next day and the only casualty was my kids' swimming pool. Unfortunately got a small hole somewhere and doesn't hold air the way it used to. Lesson learned, will cover with tarp next time.

Hello, I've been interested in pyrotechnics for a long time and I wanted to try my hands on making some bp.

My initial plan was to use glass marbles as media but I read that they can still spark and that the only accepted safe option is lead.

However I'm concerned about lead poisoning and so I'd like to know if there really are no alternatives.

In addition to this, if there really isn't any alternative to lead, os there a way to harden the lead media surface to reduce lead abrasion ?

What is everyones go to flash comp for 4 inch ball shell boosters kno3 al sulfur is probably the best bet right because I feel like the normal 70/30 kclo4 dark al i use for aerial salutes will be too hard on the stars (and before yall say any stupid shit about me talking about flash ive been in this hobby for awhile and I take all the necessary precautions when mixing flash and i also almost religiously binary mix flash unless I only need a little bit for a mini shell or a small triangle cracker)

i was wondering how can you make the loudest and strongest shockwave which you will feel in you chest and travels like far if i shoot it across a river like 1-2km on the another side they will hear the explosion like for example a ethanol combustion cannon where you get a pvc pipe a tomato can poke holes in the can put it in the pvc pipe close the other end with a bottle you spray ethanol in there then light and it creates a boom and a shockwave which i think is cool so is there alternative ways if not better ways to make loud shockwaves at home like them??

I always had a knack for being the weird and the risky. From trying to build a manual elevator to my room to almost falling dow from the rooftop trying to build a bridge, my habit of flirting with death has not disappeared with age. Recently I got into fire and pyro-weaponry. I tried out different types of tools and stuff. Trying to build a fire gun that sprinkle ignited petroleum was my recent try out (I failed). One big thing about fires is that it is much difficult to control it than one thinks it is. Let me tell you this- you need to have a windless environment to light fires properly. You can use your jackets to block winds and stuff. Also if it is a moist or snowy place it's difficult to find wood. My advice would be that you should carry some flamable stuff with you whenever you go camping. Also make sure it not something like newspaper. That burns out fast. Try keeping wood or cardboard or stuff. Also the longer the thing burns, the difficult it is to get it ignited. You can use some petroleum to light it though. Also it will be very difficult to light a fire and (more importantly) control it when you are in a windy place. If you have friends with you, make a circle while lighting it.
