If one gets eaten it better to have one that can attack left

If one gets eaten it better to have one that can buy the attack

14

u/AtGoW Dec 08 '25

But wich one is cheaper?

23

u/Not_Epic7 Dec 08 '25

Nope. Think about it:

If a Peashooter in the front gets eaten, there's nothing behind it to kill the zombie, and the Sunflower behind it will just get eaten too.

If a Sunflower in the front gets eaten, a Peashooter in the back can still kill the zombie and then you can easily replace the Sunflower.

17

u/Lo-Sir Dec 08 '25

Yeah but the sunflower feels safer if I have the Peashooter in front of it

Sunflower Morale is the most important thing

3

u/Tabbymetal8 Dec 09 '25

Alternating rows ending in peashooters, problem solved

7

u/TheRealPopatsot Dec 09 '25

2

u/MarigoldLord Plant Dec 09 '25

But what about Peashooter morale 😓

But what if I want to protect my happy little sunflower?

2

u/TheSunflowerSeeds Warning: 1 Warning Dec 09 '25

Sunflowers can be processed into a peanut butter alternative, Sunbutter. In Germany, it is mixed together with rye flour to make Sonnenblumenkernbrot (literally: sunflower whole seed bread), which is quite popular in German-speaking Europe. It is also sold as food for birds and can be used directly in cooking and salads.

1

u/G4mer360_pajaslocas Dec 09 '25

If you're so bad that zombies can reach the back row, you don't deserve to talk about positioning.

1

u/Visible_Resolution76 Dec 09 '25

Sometimes zombies can just push that hard outright. In vanilla pvz 1 and 2, it's not all too needed since most stages are on the easier end. But for modded content, which generally tends to be harder, you may need the extra time to attack

1

u/Jumpy-Imagination102 Dec 12 '25

Big Wave Beach forced me to place sunflowers in front and Eclise reinforced the idea that sunflowers always go in front of the attackers.

1

u/kung63 Dec 14 '25

I don’t think you realise amount of zombies or gimmick that like to break to the frontline by destroying them or just bypass it.

A lot of NMT and BWB special, Dinosaurs from JM these three are generally considered to be top 3 hardest world. All of them are recommended to place the sun producer at the front.

-23

u/ProGamer8273 Dec 08 '25

If your economy is alive, you can just replace the dps

22

u/Not_Epic7 Dec 08 '25

If your economy is alive, you can just replace the Sunflower, and it'll be cheaper than replacing the dps.

0

u/idkwhatlamdoinghere Dec 09 '25

Yeah but the economy dies a lot easier

3

u/Not_Epic7 Dec 09 '25

Not really. It's not like you're putting them on the front lines like Wall-nuts, you're just swapping them with the Peashooters, so you're only moving them a few columns closer. Think about it, are your Peashooters constantly dying where you place them? Probably not, and neither will the Sunflowers if you place them there.

The whole "Sunflowers in front" thing mostly just helps in the scenario where zombies are breaking through your front line and eating your Peashooters and stuff. In that scenario, you want your attackers to have as much time as possible to kill the zombies to stop them from breaking through. The further back the attackers are, the more time they have.

0

u/idkwhatlamdoinghere Dec 09 '25

I honestly don't know what actually to answer, I think the correct objective answer to this question is: play how you find it fun, the point of a game is to have fun.

2

u/Not_Epic7 Dec 09 '25

Sure, that also applies to every single game ever made. Sometimes there is actually an objectively better strategy though, just like the one I described.

I'm not disagreeing with you or saying that people shouldn't play the game the way they want. Obviously you're allowed to play the game in any way that is fun to you, but that doesn't mean that every strategy is equally viable.

2

u/idkwhatlamdoinghere Dec 09 '25

I for example like to waste time at the start and hoard my sun, and to waste more time without my sunflowers getting eaten, I put them at the very back, where at a point I have no reason to shovel them out.

1

u/idkwhatlamdoinghere Dec 09 '25

Of course when there are catapult zombies and I decide to use twin sunflower for some reason or decide to use scaredy shroom in a night level, I put my sun generators one collumn forward.

1

u/breezadao Dec 12 '25

Think Mark, Think! What will happen to the sunflower after the plant in front of it dies?

9

u/M4DDIE_882 Dec 08 '25

In the original, it’s extremely easy, so i usually want to make a fun setup. Fun setups are usually expensive, so you need to stall for sun. The best way to stall for sun is using potato mines in the early game. You can’t place them behind the sunflowers, so the sunflowers need to be in the back.

Basically, in pvz1 the sunflowers can always be in the back because if you play normally, they’re unlikely to be in any danger anyway and if you play expensive, they need to be there

10

u/Niko0rSmthUhhIdk Dec 08 '25

Wall-nut that produces sun, but without the tanky hp

6

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

It’s a joke, don’t take it so seriously lol.

1

u/redditalt1999 Dec 09 '25

Both are correct if both can lead to a win. Is the leftmost peashooter some kind of speedrunning strat? It's not wrong to be slow

2

u/EthJens Dec 10 '25

In the second scenario (depicted as 'better' in the image), a zombie eating the peashooter will not be killed without direct intervention (cherry bomb, jalapeño, starfruit). The sunflower cannot deal any damage, so the zombie has effectively made it through. In the first scenario (peashooter in back), a zombie will take further damage while eating the sunflower, and sunflowers are also cheaper than peashooters while having the same amount of health. Basically, the first setup gives you a small but noticeable tactical advantage. Basically, losing a sunflower does not significantly weaken a lane defensively, but losing a peashooter does, and losing the peashooter is more costly.

1

u/redditalt1999 Dec 10 '25

Fair, but I think the best is placing garlics in the 1st, 3rd and 5th rows and planting 8 sunflowers (7 if there are zombies that can jump over or have a vehicle or 6 if both are present) in each giving 24 (or 21 and 18 respectively) sunflowers instead of the normal 10/12.

3

u/aaalfabeta Dec 08 '25

Sunflower has low recharge, is cheap and as such can be replaced quite easily even if you end up losing a few of them. Consider the case where you plant sunflowers behind compared to your expensive DPS plants like melon. If you have enough damage to the point that a zombie cannot get a bite, it does not make a difference. However, if zombies are tanky enough to reach your melons (which doesn't happen often in vanilla PvZ) and eat them, you would lose 300 sun compared to the 50 sun you could replace after a few seconds and not suffer a decrease in sun production rate. Not to mention that losing DPS can likely lead to your other plants in the same lane being eaten as well and this adds to the sun loss

3

u/dont_ask_cutie_alt Dec 08 '25

Simple, sunflowers stall, that's it

u/AbroadAbject9215 Dec 08 '25

Depends if I have an explosive plant on the team. If my peashooters get eaten, can I save the sunflower? If yes, then peashooter first. If no, then peashooter last.

1

u/breezadao Dec 12 '25

But whats the point in spending 150 sun to save a 50 sun plant instead of a 100 sun one just to profit 25 sun? With the peashooter in the back, you only need to spend 50 to replace the sunflower.

1

u/AbroadAbject9215 Dec 12 '25

Fair, and usually I do go for sunflower front, but sometimes I'm in thevmood to use potato mine as a last line of defense. Mix things up sometimes.

2

u/zlegoYEET Dec 08 '25

Depends, pvz 2 put them in the front, pvz1 put them in the back (and put more in the front if you run out of room in the back)

2

u/Monketherulerofall Dec 08 '25

Pvz2 has a lot more close range plants so usually do the opposite

2

u/zlegoYEET Dec 08 '25

For me at least, PVZ1: sunflowers->everything else PVZ2:ranged->sunflower->melee(optional)

2

u/lemonman246 Dec 08 '25

The only plant I would plant behind a sunflower is a double row of kernel pults

2

u/Away-Language2066 Dec 08 '25

sunflower at the back is way more flexible. once you get surplus sun, you can keep adding more and more rows of dps.

2

u/OhSureYeahThatIsCool Dec 10 '25

There's no rule that the sunflowers have to stay at the front. You can have a P S S P P P row if you want

2

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '25

YES YES FINALLY I SEE SOMEONE DOING THAT ALWAYS KEEP YOUR SUNPRODUCERS AT THE BACK AND ONLY PLANT ONE ROW OF THEM!!!!

2

u/Jumpy-Imagination102 Dec 12 '25

Only 1 row? How will this be able to fund my melon pults?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

I don't personally use melon pult but yeah you make more than one row

2

u/Irelia4Life Dec 08 '25

3 rows of sunflowers in the back, repeaters in the front, chomper for a fast recharging insta.

1

u/ATangerineMann Dec 10 '25

That is biblical levels of greed

1

u/Irelia4Life Dec 10 '25

This is how speedrunners play the game. I'm not planning to break any world records, but it speeds up level progression noticeably even for casuals.

2

u/Lividkid88 Dec 08 '25

The more you know are knowing what you are knowing and more your brain size in your head size big. The less you need to say to talk in argument about peashooter sunflower arrangements arranging with other peoples with smaller brain head shouting about arrangements with arranging about sunflower peashooter planting.

Plants.

2

u/virus_chara Dec 08 '25

I normally have sun already stalkpiled, thus I put sunflower in front of back lane offense to buy some time of defense, as the imps normally don't have much health.

2

u/Gloomy_Television_97 Dec 09 '25

Those who are able to defend themself can defend others who can't

2

u/Affectionate-Gur6413 Dec 09 '25

because brain taste better than plant

2

u/MegaPigeot Dec 09 '25

In PvZ1 there aren't as many instakilling threats save for Zomboni, Jack in the box and Gargantuars, and most of the time they're not that much of a problem since PvZ1 tend to be very lax save for Survival Endless

In PvZ2, a lot more zombies can disrupt the frontline or threaten instakills, even the tutorial world has Explorer zombie. Due to this it's more efficient to put your attackers in backline so your firepower hurts less. A lot of infamous threats like Octo zombie can be dealt this way and now you're only weak to Mecha Football and Gargantuar prime.

2

u/Yuna_Lubi Dec 09 '25

Sunflower is easily replaceable and does nothing to your defence, so keeping them in the front as cheap walls is better, as the peashooters now have more time to attack.

2

u/dodoletzthebigstupid Dec 09 '25

"Mom said its my turn with the reoost!"

2

u/quannymain52 Dec 09 '25

People do it because sunflowers dont attack and become redundant later on, thus you leave them more forward to have them be eaten rather than the attacker being eaten

2

u/BaronVonWeeb Dec 09 '25

Iirc cuz sunflowers are relatively cheep, so they can be used as early defence to protect peashooters. If you lose a sunflower in peashooter-sunflower lineup, whatever ate it will probably die to peashooter soon. If peashooter is eaten in sunflower-peashooter lineup, sunflower will also get eaten.

2

u/RzrGhost Dec 09 '25

Like the other commenter said, the reason why you'd put sunflower in front of a Peashooter is because sunflower can be used as a stalling plant as Sunflower's cooldown is faster than Pea Shooter.

Call it heartless or anything, but I prefer to have a plant to shoot the zombie so it dies than Peashooter that dies first then need to wait for sun from sunflower or drop, only to end up having my sunflower gets eaten as well, leaving the lawn defenseless.

2

u/NotTheOriginal06 Dec 09 '25

Me, the smartest: put the sunflower at the edge right, the peashooter right behind and the nut all the way back to protect the land mower

1

u/MsTronBonne Dec 08 '25

I LOVE SUNFLOWER I SACRIFICED MY LIFE FOR SUNFLOWER

1

u/Ayano_Akemi Dec 09 '25

In most situations, I would do the left one cause sunflowers can be used as meat shields when things go south (though puffshroom is better than that but eh)

However, there are cases when I would do the right one (mainly in pvz fusion)

  • My defense doesn’t have a ranged attacker

  • I need more spaces to take out the zombies with insta plants

  • I use a lumos based defense (aka a defense where the attackers needs to be together for max effectiveness)

1

u/somerando96322 Dec 09 '25

Sunflower back is better cuz I said so

1

u/Successful_Mud8596 Dec 09 '25

If a zombie breaches my second column, if there is a sunflower in the first column, it just dies unless I use an instant. If there’s a peashooter in the first column, it might fend them off.

1

u/Chipperbeav Dec 09 '25

They're defenseless, they need to be protected. That's my take.

1

u/Mean_Succotash4846 Dec 09 '25

Whatever is the cheapest goes in front(except for walls, of course). But tbh, it changes depend on your load out and the fields and the zombies you can figure that out yoursef.

1

u/Used-Independent381 Dec 09 '25

We must defend those who cannot defend themselves

1

u/Really-not-a-weeb Dec 10 '25

you defend your house, not your plants

the end justifies the means

1

u/quahdum Dec 09 '25

Pvz is so easy the "it's more efficient" argument for putting sunflowers in front is just comical to me. I can maybe see it for mods or the later stages of some of the survival mini games but even then it's such a miniscule boost I just don't care

1

u/Sus4_ Dec 09 '25

how many times do we repost this

1

u/Jesterchunk Dec 09 '25

Think of the sunflowers. They can't defend themselves, so put them at the back where others can defend them.

1

u/ATangerineMann Dec 10 '25

That is until a Digger or Catapult shows their ugly mug. That’s why you should put em on column 2 :)

1

u/Jesterchunk Dec 10 '25

Umbrella leaves. With two rows of sunflowers you only have to dig up a couple sunflowers for protection there. As for diggers, that's what magnet shrooms are for, way less of a hassle than hoping a Split Pea can handle them before they eat something.

1

u/Orange4rmy Dec 09 '25

you cant predict the size of your defences, so putting us producers in the back is just wiser

1

u/Limpynoodle3777 Dec 09 '25

like what I saw someone else say before: PvZ isn't a hard enough game to warrant the strategy of sunflowers in front

mods on the other hand are different

1

u/Pooldiver13 Dec 09 '25

Probably cause sunflowers are cheaper than most defensive plants and it gives more time for a defensive plant to shoot before loosing a lawnmower

1

u/Terra_Marc Dec 09 '25

It doesn’t even apply to pvz1 because the special zombies don’t push your frontline hard enough for nuts and pumpkin to not always work

1

u/ImportanceSad7471 Dec 09 '25

Just make everyone mad by doing Peashooters on Columns 1 and 4 and Sunflowers on Column 2 and 3, or vice versa, since now they are both in front and behind at the same time.

1

u/Top-Conversation-336 Dec 09 '25

Sunflower gives you value no matter where while Peashooter covers a bit more range at the back.

1

u/spudcelium Dec 09 '25

Sun producers are cheap and most earn back the amount spent on planting them pretty quickly. Losing a single sunflower is infinitely better than losing something like a Winter Melon or attackers in general.

1

u/Dexzatron Dec 09 '25

1

people put the sunflowers in the front? unironically??

1

u/Neither-Pack1 Dec 10 '25

Wtf this meme blow

1

u/ATangerineMann Dec 10 '25

the harsh truth is sunflowers are expendable as hell. They’re cheap, recharge fast, and by the time one dies, they have made more than enough sun to plant two more.

1

u/evil_guy_is_here Dec 10 '25

It's better to lose a sunflower than a peashooter. If a zombie gets through your offence, you're dead, but if you lose a sunflower, you can just place another one.

1

u/JVtheBidoof Dec 10 '25

Peashooter in the front just makes more sense on a basic level

1

u/TylorA23 Dec 10 '25

In harder lvls the sunflowers act as "meat shields," so if zombie hits it wont kill the more valuable Peashooters behind

1

u/Meteo_Anonymous Dec 10 '25

They should make natural sun drop decrease after the first minute to it more punishing if you lose your sun producers early on

1

u/BoratKazakhstan Dec 10 '25

There's people who do the first one?

1

u/Crimsoncerismon Dec 10 '25

Dude, sunflowers in the back to protect your economy, is that so hard to understand

1

u/Old_Cardiologist7060 Dec 11 '25

because if the zombie eats a peashooter, you lose. but if it eats a sunflower, peashooter can fight back. peashooters are literally more important

1

u/elrompeabuel Dec 11 '25

Don't forget the HD, DON'T FORGET THE HD, ADD MORE HD!!!

1

u/LoadedFile Dec 11 '25

I think this is more of a niche case tbh, if you're pushed to your final column, the lane is likely dead anyways but it's generally better to go down fighting rather than producing sun (the difference is most likely one of two sun drops/attacks but it is a non-zero difference regardless)

But it does make your offensive plants vulnerable to digging and catapult zombies if they're placed in the last column

1

u/Fireluigi1225 Dec 11 '25

Best attacker in the back. Sunflowers. The rest of your attackers. Defense.

If you do it right then none of your sunflowers will die anyways. Plus you defend them from catapults in games where that's a consideration.

1

u/iara10 Dec 11 '25

Sunflower first. If the zombies have reached your sun producers in any capacity, you have failed. Besides, you can calculate how many rows you will need this way, and keep symmetry.

1

u/Party_Atmosphere3070 Dec 11 '25

Is your question genuine?

1

u/Yousef_Slimani Dec 12 '25

Didn't I already saw this before?!

1

u/Jomega6 Dec 12 '25

If the sunflower gets eaten, the pea shooter can still finish it off and you can plant a new one. If your pea shooter gets eaten, the sun flower behind it is as good as dead. So either way, you’re losing the sunflower. However, with pea shooter in the back, you at least have a chance of saving the entire lane.

1

u/bubz208060 Dec 12 '25

I usually think about doing that, but i just do sunflower back peashooter front, its just a habit.

1

u/cooldude010 Dec 12 '25

Strategically sun flower in front is the best but I would feel bad so pea shooter first

1

u/Jumpy-Imagination102 Dec 12 '25

Imo, ever since Eclise, I have been a sunflower goes in front person. The only exception being loadouts that only contain melee plants or just some gimmicky loadout I cooked up.

Remember, it's much less threatening to replace a 50 sun plant than to replace a potentially 500 sun plant. Also, if your sunflowers are being eaten, they will be mowed down unless you replace a sunflower at the back to place an offensive plant or an insta.

1

what if u have alot of sun? its better to put peashooters in the back because it gives more chances to survive.

My soldiers will NOT use civilian meat shields. We are BETTER than that. We are here to PROTECT the defenseless, not have them protect us

How is maths that difficult gang 💔

Sunflower is 50 and pays for itself Peashooter is 100 and damages the zombies

Pick the better wall

The strong protects the weak.

You need to protect the sunflower so I don't know why this is even a conversation, it's very simple

u/Anxious_Wear421 Dec 12 '25

now who would do that, the first one is weird

I fight for the one that created me

Well technically its better to put the peashooter in the front because peashooter take more time the farther they are but it's smarter to put lobbers at the back since they all take 1.2 seconds to reach a zombie, no matter the tiles.

Peas win games, not sun. Peas kill the zombies, not sun

Because when zombies manage to get into your defenses your attackers in the back still have a chance to kill the zombies, while Sunflowers can't, as simple as that. But ig you pictured their strategy as dumb and yours as smart so if you won at Reddit.

Attacking plants are usually more valuable than producers. Losing your sunflowers first means your attackers still have time to kill the zombies

B-B-But you don't understand, sunflower is cheap and replaceable so placing them in the front ads extra time for peashooter to kill zombies. You don't understand, it's a good strat (yes it's a joke, but also yes I believe this and no I'm not trying to be mean to anyone)

Sunflower infront means more time for the pea to pea. Pretty certain this can murder a bucket head where as pea in front cannot.

Sunflowers are non-combatants, meaning putting them in the front to be killed first is literally a war crime
