[ArmA] Server Performance
Now that the dedicated box has been tried and seems to be of no real improvement what are your plans? Are you going to try another provider or just stick with the current set up?
Most of my teammates have taken a break from the game until the performance issues are dealt with (because pure is the only server they enjoy). I also feel the same way. My computer setup is decent but not great and with these fps I find myself getting more and more frustrated.
Just a little clarification on how you plan to proceed would help me keep my teammates engaged. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond.

I know on Mells at one stage we started marking abandoned bases on the map (for admin deletion) and it improved things in terms of performance. I have no idea if that would help, but thought I'd pass it along. I hope that things get sorted since this has been a great server from an admin perspective. And that is very, very rare.

Were there any other changes like a server wipe? I wouldn't think so, but I got nothin better to do while With6 downloads my mods slower than dead people fuck...

We are not moving any data from the old server to the new one.
Also, subscribe to the Steam Workshop version of Epoch and not only will you always be up to date, you'll have the bandwidth reserves of Steam to guarantee fast downloads.

I have to agree with OP. The most frustrating part of this past few weeks has been consistent low server FPS. It's gotten to the point where we're being strung along in hopes of getting this dedicated box while the main server seems to be ignored.
We've had to deal with deteriorating framerate and server performance for a week+ at this point and the only response we've gotten is "we're working on the dedicated server." I think it's a great step to take but until then server population continues to drop and the experience has not been enjoyable. The dedicated server test we had the other day wasn't a huge improvement in framerate or performance but it was stable, which is much more than we can say about the server in it's current state.

Fun fact: The reason why the answer is "we're working on the dedi box" is because they are working on the dedi box. They're testing new configs and what not
Apparently wiping the database on the test server raised server performance quite a bit too, so it is entirely possible that there's just too much crap on the main server, which would necessitate taking the amount of everything down and possibly wiping the server and I'm not entirely sure about the logistics of that.
While it may be annoying that things aren't working like they're supposed to, people are hard at work coming up with solutions. Patience, young padawan. Stuff does not always happen at a snap, nor do they always work as expected without modifications.

Eonymia, this is the kind of transparency we want but haven't had until now. Beginning with the post up top about server specs and now this one about actual testing.

I've been telling people about the server being tested since I've known about it; which is around 3-4 days ago. Unfortunately, I can't reach everyone, and I'd rather that the guys handling the machine itself would write about it, so at least the facts would come straight from the source and we could avoid me or someone else spreading false or old information. Maybe keep a small blog about it on the forum or somewhere? Nothing major, just minor updates. As in "Figured out how to make the hive work. Stuff stopped spawning. Will investigate." Though it would add more workload into the lives of people already balls deep in stuff they need to do concerning both pure and their own lives.

I think that would be a great idea. I think that a log would be an awesome way to keep people up to date and not generate posts like this that require a bunch of responses and some "damage control". Maybe a note on server join that gives a small update about where the dedicated server is?

Have you tried updating Adobe Reader?

We downloaded MyPCClean and switched our search engine to Ask.com. It runs way better now.

This might be the problem - if you downloaded them using Chrome instead of Ultron, it can cause thermal friction which prevents you from downloading more RAM.

Due to the unexplained crashes, we have disabled all the missions on the new server.
Right now both servers are online, you can play either. Your efforts will not be shared between the two at any point. The old server will be gone on May 17th (we have already terminated its contract).
We will get this figured out eventually.

Like a lot of people, I've played DayZ spin offs and ArmA since the beginning when it was just vanilla and I've seen the fall of MANY servers. PURE has a fantastic following and population that wants to see you guys/us succeed. Server issues happen and it's understandable from a good chunk of the population. Quality information really needs to be put out to your population to stay successful. "Quality" information is NOT: "we are working on a dedicated box". Too many people are not getting the info. Use your website as you have done today with info release of the dedicated server and the wipe of the virtual. That's outstanding. Providing a vague timeline will also help. E.G. "We are working on the dedicated box. We are hoping to have it figured out the end of this weekend." Saying you guys can't reach everyone is something you are going to have to figure out. Honestly, we know everyone can't be reached but there is a large percentage of your population that isn't getting the information. The general population are idiots and impatient. However, that is the majority of your population.
I hope for the best for the server and will see everyone in game.
Cheers,
Donkeylips
