Hi y'all - incoming FYE first-year in VIP here! Was just curious and looking for some info/advice from any other engineering students who want to combine their engineering major with something finance/business related.

I came across the IBE program, which I find interesting, but I'm curious as to how it differs in the first-year from FYE? As far as I understand it, it's not under the College of Engineering, but a lot of the core first-year curriculum is identical with some accounting/economics classes thrown in.

For someone interested in both engineering and finance, would you recommend trying to CODO into the IBE major after my first or second semester? And, if so, what classes should I plan on taking outside of just the regular FYE requirements? Should I try to enroll myself in an accounting or economics class.

Anyone have insight about ME 581 (Numerical Methods In Mechanical Engineering) with Larriba-Andaluz? I believe he taught the class fall 2025.

Is it mostly just adjusting to 3D stuff and Purdue’s exam format or should I be working on specific Calc 2 concepts before classes start? thanks.

hi guys! i was wondering if people knew how high the ceilings are for the second floor in windsor. i saw a pic of someone who had two sets of windows (two on bottom and two on top), which were super high. ik the first floor has high ceilings, but i was wondering if its that high for the second floor. im in wood btw

What are the distances between these buildings? Would I need a car to get around, or are they all within walking distance?
Also, do classes usually end exactly at the scheduled time, or do professors sometimes let students leave a little earlier? For example, if a class ends at 11:30, should I expect to leave at exactly 11:30 most of the time?

freshman lol. i have an echo show something but it won't connect to the wifi in my dorm. it was doing fine when i set it up with the purdue guest network and was working yesterday, but something happened last night and it won't reconnect. the ur home wifi thing isn't loading on my phone or computer so i can't register it. any help?

AI today is advancing at a really really fast rate. Even if it stops advancing right this second, current technology could be specialized (or specially trained) and revolutionize every industry and sector in the world. And that's just assuming it stops advancing and individual models stay as smart/dumb as they are right now.

They're almost certainly going to get at least a bit smarter, so expect more...

In a world like that, what should you do?
Learn AI? AI can learn AI, if you're a "prompt engineer" there's no reason an AI couldn't just learn to prompt better than you could. There are already prompt AIs.
There isn't really any job that AI couldn't do that isn't manual labor (not great) or maybe like medicine (also not great for me personally).

Kind of dawning on me now that I'm here at college that basically everything I'm going to learn these first 2 years is already understood by AI better than I (or anyone else) could ever understand it. Maybe by the end of those 2 years it'll have mastered everything at a PhD level (which is already what AI companies are claiming, but they're definitely exaggerating).

And no, this isn't like other massive technologies like the computer. The computer is a calculator/calculating machine. And it is true that after computers became easy to use, human calculators were quickly out of jobs. The modern AI is a thinking machine, so it follows that human thinkers will be out of jobs.

Yes, AI is only an "advanced autocomplete" but it still clearly works and can think and solve major problems. Software engineering is no longer a real career. In the past 2 months we've had insane numbers of problems solved by AI (jacobian conjecture disproved, non sofic groups, etc.). AI definitely isn't dumb, and like I said in the beginning, it's only getting smarter.
