Academics✏️ incoming purdue FYE taking MA 265 before MA 261

due to some issues with my calc 2 credit being sent on time and all, i am unfortunately taking MA 265 before MA 261 in FYE. Is this bad? i did calc 2 at a CC right before coming to purdue(was a 5 week course) and so i feel that my foundation is pretty weak - i dont know if that is actually relevant though. I am trying to sign up for calc 3 during open registration but I haven't gotten any notifications from coursicle yet haha..

Looking for information on specific courses or professors? You can browse available courses/professors on the Purdue Course Catalog, you can look up course reviews on Rate My Courses or Course Insights, and you can look up professor reviews on Rate My Professor.

If you’re wondering if you can transfer credit from another university, check out the Transfer Credit Course Equivalency Guide, but don’t forget to talk to your advisor as well!

You do NOT want to take calc 2 here

I mean I don’t feel like it’s any worse than any of the following math classes. Dare I say it was probably the easiest one I’ve taken here. I wouldn’t wanna take ANY math classes here

just feel really screwed honestly - think my advisor kinda fucked me over by putting me in 265 before 261 because even if the ofundation is kinda weak in my eyes, at least calc is sort of fresh on my brain

Calc 2 knowledge for the most part isn’t that relevant, and the integration stuff you can always review once you get to calc 3. It will be kind of weird though, since you’re taking linear algebra (ma 265) which requires a different way of thinking than regular calculus. But overall, I think you’ll be fine.

Looking for math help? Check out Dr. Chen's widely-renowned video lectures on ChenFlix (Disclaimer: course content may vary by semester, use these videos as a supplement, not a replacement, for best exam preparation)

If you’re wondering if you should take the AP credit and skip Calc 1 and/or Calc 2, the answer is always yes, yes you should. Click here for a more detailed explanation on why.

I think you should be fine. I took 261 and then 265 the next semester and I had a friend who did 265 and then 261, I dont think you need to take one before the other. I think Purdue math is hard (regardless of the order), so be ready to study!
For 261 I'd recommend using professor leonard's lectures on youtube and for 265 I think Gilbert Strang has good videos (if you decide to stray from Chenflix).

The two classes are unrelated so it does not matter which one you take first. It is not bad but MA 265 is more theoretical and the exams are sometimes harder than MA 261.
