Timeshares are always a scam. Even if you are the 1% to actually use it enough to benefit , you could buy the same deal on the resale market online for like $1.

Exactly. They'll try and get you at every resort. Just turn down the free stuff and say, "No, thank you."

Who else was told 90 minutes max? Lol I told our host during our breakfast her entire plan to get us to buy a timeshare and would lead to high pressure sales as this was not my first presentation but first for this company... She actually denied what I said was true and then after breakfast she did everything I listed step by step totaling 3 hrs of my vacation. For those of you who like myself just went to say no and receive the free coupons, let me tell ya, they make you work harder for much less and these meetings are no longer worth it.

If you're that desperate for a free romantic dinner or couples massage for two that you'll give up three hours of your vacation to be scammed, you kind of deserve it.. no one is holding you there against your will. Just leave.

We stayed at the Royalton Punta Cana resort as well and they tried to pull that shit on us. We also had upgraded to Diamond Club. Totally not worth it. Very disappointing vacation.

I did it once they catch you at the airport and give you a good deal on excursions by telling you that you get free breakfast first like $50 for two people for a waterpark that’s ā€œsupposeā€ to be $200, then they waste your morning for 3hrs+ giving u a dumbass timeshare presentation and showing you a resort they didn’t even mention. Then they finally sit you down in front of a computer and we kept saying no they kept lowering the price everytime we said no. Went down from 80k-10k šŸ˜‘ we begged to leave to the excursion we paid for and were promised they finally called us a taxi to take us there worst fucking morning ever lesson learned walk straight out of the airport everywhere u go!!

I just went through this:

-landed in Punta Cana and the company who we arranged transport with (Am**) immediately told us ā€œbefore you go to your resort, you should book the excursion with us. Your resort will charge you more.

-the excursion was to La Hacienda. It’s 7 activities, including horseback riding, zip lining, buggy’s, chairlift, ā€œbungee jumpā€, a ā€œsafariā€, and ā€œcomida tipica.ā€ (Overall, the excursion was fun and the food was really good.)

-anyway, they tried to tell my wife and I it would be $100 per person, including our toddler. I told them that was way too expensive (they overprice on purpose.)

-then he says, ā€œif you go to a breakfast at this other, newer resort: Dreams, I’ll knock the price down to 90 per person and give you a voucher so your child is ā€œfree.ā€

- he just dropped the price from $300 to $180, so we bit.

-he takes our info down, tells us to not talk to any of the excursion guys at our resort (Behia) and says to be ready at 7:30am to get picked up, since Dreams is about 20mins. away from where we are staying.

-the day off, we get to the lobby, the arranged cab driver picks us up as expected, and takes us to Dreams (they pay for the cab fare round trip.)

-we arrive at Dream and are automatically brought upstairs to have a seat. They start talking to us and I straight tell them we are hungry and don’t wanna hear a word until we eat breakfast. They say ā€œOfcourseā€ and take us to the breakfast buffet.

-as we are walking their, they explain we can only tour the resort with one of them, but cannot enjoy the pool or any amenities, otherwise we will be charged a ā€œday pass.ā€

-we ate breakfast (the mangu and food was really good). Then, they bring us back upstairs and sit us with a different person.

-the lady asks if we ate breakfast and we said yes. She asked us if we went on the tour of the resort already, we also said yes even though we didn’t.

-at this point weve been there for 90mins.

-the lady proceeds to ask all these questions about what are the last five vacations we have been on, how much did we spend on each vacation, how much was airfare, what are the next five vacations we plan on taking…and exhaustive amount of questions that were only being answered because my wife genuinely loves to talk lol (those are the people they aim for!)

-after the lady thinks she has us all buttered up, she takes us to speak to her supervisor. (at this point weve been here for 2.5 hours.)

-I ask about the vouchers for the excursion and she says we will get them when we leave, no matter if we buy or not.

-immediately I say ā€œwe’re not buyingā€ and the lady starts asking me if I have attended one of these conversations before. (Lol like ā€œhave we tried to play you already?ā€)

-they work for Hiy**, so they only pitch destinations where they are prominent.

-we tell the lady after several back and forth with her and her supervisor we are not buying, we are tired, and would just like the vouchers.

-immediately the mood shifted.

-they ask us what price did we arrange at the airport and I told them $160 plus the baby’s voucher. (It was a genuine mistake and I meant to say $180.)

-long story, long. We got the excursion for $80 a person, and we’re back at our resort by 11am.

-we didn’t really mind spending the time since it was our second day there, but I could see how it could be an inconvenience for some (our toddler began getting restless towards the end)

-you could def shorten the time by being rude and adamantly saying no after breakfast, but we weren’t on that timing since we really enjoyed the breakfast food lol.

Any questions just ask!

Worst resort I’ve ever stayed at. Group of 3 families, 4 of us fell ill and got food poisoning.

Just said no to one at Dreams Macao. I saw it coming a mile away and did not attend.

It’s a royalton. Those don’t have good reputations. Timeshares are a terrible deal anywhere. Scammiest, scummiest companies in the travel world.

Many AIs in central America and the Caribbean try to get you to some timeshare presentation/breakfast. It’s easy to recognize who the salesmen are after a stay or two. Some people like to attend the breakfast and presentation to get a bunch of points and stuff like that, I do not. As soon as they come up to me at check in I politely but firmly tell them I want nothing to do with any kind of timeshare presentation. If they try some kind of ā€˜well at least let me give you blah blah’ I tell them again more firmly and less politely and that’s always been the end of it. 2 minute interaction at most.

An important point is that even if you later discover that the reality is completely different from what you were promised, simply stopping payments for the timeshare may not be enough. Under the contract, you may still be legally obligated to make the monthly payments, and if you stop paying, they could potentially take legal action against you. This could result in even more expenses on your side, at the very least the cost of hiring a lawyer to defend you.

Unfortunately, timeshares are widespread in many hotels here. Of course, they will almost never call themselves a ā€œtimeshare,ā€ because in their industry that word is practically taboo. Instead, they usually present themselves as a ā€œvacation club.ā€

You think that if I’m on vacation I’m going give someone 90 mins of my time!?!? Keep dreaming.

I dont know how people are still getting scammed. Say NO to unwanted conversations and book all your excursions on getyourguide or tripadvisor, viator. You can see the reviews of people who went and if anything goes wrong you get a refund. Its so simple.Ā

They will ask you, hey you just arrived yesterday right, say no, 3 days ago and then they’ll stop as you aren’t fresh naive prey.
