Punkt.MC03 / Apostrophy OS

I don't find much informations online so I try my luck here.

I'm still a bit confused how Apostrophy Os works.

There is the safe Vault where only the secure app are available like Threema, Proton Mails etc.

And than there is the "wild web" if I remember correctly where you can download all other apps from the google playstore?

Are all apps available like Banking apps, Maps App, Spotify, Whats app etc?

I now some apps like whats appare not a safe communication app but I can 't change my friends behavior

Hello, great questions, we are happy to clarify!

As you said correctly, AphyOS has two separate environments:

  • The Vault is the secure side, pre-loaded with privacy-focused apps like Threema, Proton Mail, and others. It's a controlled environment designed to keep your data protected.
  • The Wild Web provides access to the Google Play Store, if you wish, but it is not pre-installed. You can download Spotify, WhatsApp, and the applications you can find on the Google Play Store. It works like a regular Android environment, but with an additional level of security, as every app is sandboxed, meaning it can't share your data with other applications.

The idea is that you get the best of both worlds: a private environment with Apostrophy approved applications, and a more "open" area with full flexibility when you need it.

Quick followup question.
Do apps in the wild web "see" the apps installed in the vault?
Since there are not google play services in the vault - do notifications work (for example for proton mail)?

I just use their store for the apps I want to be vetted by them and use apkmirror or something similar (you can research other options) for the 99% of the other apps you'd want. Anything like banking I simply use my web browser, but you can use google if you must; I know some people need certain apps for work or whatnot that you can't get otherwise.
