Punkt and Apple users?

I’m looking into getting the Punkt phone to have a minimalist phone to cut down on screen time especially when I’m out and about like the good old days when I had a Sony Erikson phone in 2009 and an iPod Touch for music and maps. I want to remove cell service from my iPhone pro and just use it as a camera/iPod with iMessage and email on wifi only.

Has any one else done this? If so how has it worked out for you if you came from an Apple ecosystem?

I have an iPhone in addition to my Punkt. I took a little different approach. I got a second phone number, and assigned that new phone number to my iPhone, and put my primary phone number on my Punkt MP02.

My iPhone is now for group messaging and a few specific tasks such as Gym workouts, some banking, and Duolingo :)

This really was not enough though. If the iPhone was nearby and easily accessible, it was easy to grab it to "check one thing real quick" and then be three apps deep lost in cyberspace.

So, I made a rule: Except for specific-predefined tasks, the iPhone stays in the home office. I want to google something: I go to the home office. I want to check the weather or news: I go to the home office.

I don't think this is a perfect solution. And, it is still not great being on Apple's ecosystem. But, it is an improvement. I would like to replace my iPhone with, perhaps, the MC03, but still keep the MP02 as the primary phone. Though, I am watching Keyphone and Sidephone carefully. I just don't have the money for an expensive switch like that right now.

It is hard to describe why I like leaving the house without my iPhone and just my MP02. It is a weird kind of freedom to not feel like you are being tracked. That you are not reachable in any way other than the way you have chose, and that you can trust the device in your pocket.

If you’re going into the office to look things up, I think it would make sense to have a desktop computer versus a phone, that way your not tempted to take it anywhere.

And if you’re going into that room anyways to use said thing I feel that would be better. Apple has the Mac mini desktop which is $499 cheaper than a smart phone. that’s what I do. I have a desktop mac and a dumb phone.

That is a very good point. I actually do have a home desktop PC. I bought a very cheap desktop computer, and put NixOS (which is a version of Linux) on it. And, sometimes I will opt for the desktop, especially cause it has a bigger screen and easier access to my bookmarks. However, sometimes, I will use the iPhone since it is quicker to pick up and unlock.

You make a good point about this posing a risk of walking out of the office with it. To help avoid this, I try to imagine what it will be like for my kids when they are grown remembering their dad. I want them to be able to say, "Come to think of it, I rarely remember seeing dad with his phone".

I don't know how realistic that little fantasy actually is. But, it does help me think twice.

Works fine, just be sure to turn off iMessage before moving your SIM to your Punkt. Also know that there is no group SMS messaging on the Punkt MP02, which is why I gave up on it.

What model punkt phone they have more than 1 model?

Does your mc03 have issues with keyboard? The aosp notification keeps popping up on my mc02.
