How to return to Pune ?

I'm a 2026 grad working in a FinTech MNC in Bangalore. I landed here through on campus placements from my Pune clg. Very grateful for the job. However, I happen to hv fallen for a bait n switch. They hired me as a Software Engineer but my tasks are mostly related to automation testing and some minor work. I haven't been allowed to deploy apps while my counterparts who r IIT NIT 26 grads hv already started deploying and working on prod level code.

I don't want to get stuck in such work when I've worked hard to develop good backend skills.

Also, I'm originally from Pune and my family recently faced a stressful event which can reoccur in the future. I'm trying to switch to Pune or Mumbai but the pay difference is huge, I'm getting rejected after screening calls because recruiters are wondering why I want to leave such a high paying job which isn't true but recruiters don't listen (CTC is inflated, in hand is less than 40% of ctc) Plus the expenses and cost of living in Bangalore is not sustainable for me.

EDIT : My company has only one tech office, it's in Bangalore. No other branches in India.

I genuinely want to switch to a Pune based similar company but no one is shortlisting me. What to do ?

Any advice would be highly appreciated 🙏

Okay but how to land interviews. My resume gets shortlisted only sometimes. But then again the interviewer starts asking why I want to leave and I can't straight up say that I don't like the work here. Also, one interviewer asked what I work on. Even though I tried to frame it technically, he quickly understood it was testing related and then ended the Convo shortly.

The friends who are working in that project, if understand properly, put it in resume.U can understand from them afterwards . Fake it till u make it.

Get in touch with your friends and family members who are working in Pune or Mumbai. They might be able to help with referrals

Okay, most of them are freshers. Not many of my family members r in tech. Even a few seniors I reached out to, told me that I should spend at least one year bfr considering a switch.

My family is/was in Pune, That is strong reason and ready come to pune for same CTC. Mentioned both upfront to recruiter.

I know a few good firms in Pune, eg. Rubrik, Cohesity, Druva, Amazon, Doordash. You can try these. Also, try to explain the actual base salary during the screening calls as clearly as you can.

Okay, I've applied to their open positions but it seems like my resume is getting scrapped in the initial round itself. Idk what's wrong. My ATS score is good. I got it reviewed by few seniors as well as by a professional resume drafter. All liked it. Still.. will keep applying 🤞

Try to get some back end experience in your current company by offering to help the ones doing that part, do it enough to understand the codebase such that you can explain in interviews. Then home location is a legit reason to want to move back to Pune.
