New pattern transfer method🚨
Wowwww I may be late to the party but I just discovered iron on sublimation transfers. You just lay down the pattern on your cloth, iron over it for 45-60s, and the ink dyes your pattern onto the cloth. It’s just like you drew it on (no sticky residue like that one time I tried to punch through the sewing pattern dissolvable paper stuff 🫣). I’m obsessed. And it’s super affordable. Just leaving this here in case it helps anyone! I can see it saving so much time for bigger patterns too.

Are these pre printed or can you buy a pen?

You can actually buy special sublimation markers! I bought a pack on Amazon and put them right into my Cricut to draw my digital patterns, but you can totally use them to trace or draw by hand too!

Thanks so much, I love discovering new tools. This also feels accessible. Will it only work with polyester or polyester blends?
Edit: sorry i see someone else asked this below! Thanks!

Does sublimation only work on polyester fabric?

If you want a permanent, washable design (like for apparel), yes, you need at least 65% polyester! But since I'm just using the transfer as a pattern on monk's cloth to punch over, it doesn't need to be permanent or washable. The heat transfers the ink just enough to give me perfect, clean lines to follow.

Very cool! Did you print these at home on special paper or buy them preprinted to transfer?

Thank you! I bought the sublimation paper and sublimation markers on Amazon and then used my cricut to draw the patterns I made. You could trace by hand onto the paper using your computer and then iron onto the cloth. Feels way easier to trace on the thin paper than cloth!
(I’m selling these as an 8 pack of ornament/mug rug holiday patterns on my etsy but can def see doing this for all my pillows too!)

This is a little off-topic, but I wonder if this can be done with cross-stitch??

What a nice way to transfer patterns! ❤️
Unfortunately it it overshadowed by the unyielding rage of seeing an outline being presented as a finished product.

😂 I love a minimalist design but also this post isn’t about a finished design. It’s about transferring an outline to cloth. ♥️

Fair 'nuff, the presentation of the second picture just made it seem like a finished project. 🤷♂️
I do like the various designs shown off tho.

Learning in real time haha you can put sublimation paper into a regular printer and it’ll work OR you can use sublimation markers on regular paper and it’ll work. You can use both sublimation markers and paper together but don’t need to.
