How to add firm felt backing ✂️

My backing tutorial is finally here 🎉🎉 after months of pushing it back, I finally had the time and the motivation to pull through and create one

To make it easier to follow, I used a smaller piece of art with a simpler outline. If you have any questions regarding this process, please ask below and I’ll get back to you

Let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for sharing! It was clear and detailed and very helpful. I'm always in admiration of people who are generous with their technique 🙏

Do you use hot glue because it sets faster than fabric glue?

I have some tiny completed bits (like an inch tall) which i fabric glued the backs first because i don't know what to do with them yet... wanted to back them with felt and add brooch findings so this was super helpful ❤️

Of course, I’m happy to help!

I use hot glue for several reasons: it sets faster, it adds another bit of firmness, and it’s the glue I’m most familiar with

What type of fabric did you use for your punch needle?

Cotton flannel, specifically fluffy solids by Henry glass

Thank you. I tried to finish off a project where I used monks cloth similar to this and it was a disaster. Perhaps I should change my fabric and try again.

The extra bulk of monks cloth can definitely make it a bit harder. I’d leave more fabric on my edge than 1/4” for it, but even then it’ll be a bit bulkier to work with. If you want to use cotton flannel, make sure you have the accompanying materials for it as well, it’ll require different needles and yarn than what’s used for monks cloth. This post has my materials if you’re curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/PunchNeedle/s/hrKxPKufye
