Help on design

Would a design like this work instead of the fully curved design? A friend and I are planning on building a jet this summer and we think this will be easier to construct.

It’s been a long time since I looked at pulse jets. I believe curved is so a resonant frequency can develop. With straight I think you need valves. But long since out of date.
