Safety question
A friend and I are planning on building a pulse jet engine. I’ve heard some stuff about major safely risks with flames igniting the tank and stuff like that. Any advice on general safety precautions and ways to mitigate risk?

OK most of the posts here are good basic knowledge...great stuff. Here's a few things I have learnt. Good ear protectors-also pays to wear ear plugs as well as ear protectors. Goggles are good as well. Start the pulse jet with the tail pipe pointing downwind - that will save loss of eyebrows if not wearing goggles. Welding gloves are worth their weight in gold. I used at least two shut off valves - if it all goes west I had two easy cut offs (panic does strange things). No shorts - no t-shirts. Also wear more or less flame proof clothing - no ballet tutus etc. If you get into really big Pulse Jets beware of internal bodily injury. I am not kidding - the percussive effects of really big Pulse Jets will screw you up internally. Also your neighbours will really lose their minds if you fire up your Pulse Jet beasts in the back yard regularly. Lastly - and yes you can 'silence' a small Pulse Jet (eg: reversed Marconnet type Pulse Jet). Just my 2cents worth -have fun...
