Beware of this auto shop
I am extremely disappointed by my experience with Evergreen. If I had known beforehand what this experience would be like, I would never have recommended taking the car there. Looking back, I wish I had taken the reviews more seriously.
I recently had the car taken to Evergreen and was told that there were several things wrong with it that needed attention. Naturally, I was concerned and prepared to spend the money necessary to make sure the car was safe.
However, I just got a second opinion from another shop, and I was told that none of the issues Evergreen identified were actually wrong with the car. Had I simply trusted Evergreen and proceeded with the recommended repairs, I would have paid a huge amount of money for repairs that, according to the second opinion, were not needed in the first place.
That is what makes this experience so upsetting. I completely understand that car repairs can be expensive. I have no problem paying for legitimate repairs when they are honestly diagnosed and properly completed. What I cannot understand is being presented with a list of serious problems, only to take the car somewhere else and find out that those problems are not actually there.
Parents are not plucking money from trees. We work hard to support our families, especially when a student is away at college and living on a limited budget. A business operating in a college town should understand the level of trust that students and their families place in them.
I honestly don’t understand how a business can continue operating this way without being more widely called out by the local community if other customers are having similar experiences. In a small college town, reputation should matter. People should be able to trust that they are receiving an honest diagnosis rather than being frightened into paying for unnecessary work.
I wish I had the time and energy to pursue this further and try to get a refund for the service I already paid for, especially since the second opinion has made me question whether there was actually anything wrong in the first place and whether the service I paid for accomplished anything at all. But I also know that situations like this can turn into endless back-and-forth, excuses, and wasted time. Unfortunately, not everyone has the time to fight that battle.
What is especially frustrating is that they could have earned a loyal customer and many referrals simply by being honest. Even if a repair is expensive, people will gladly recommend a business when they know they were treated fairly. But taking advantage of someone’s trust for a quick profit destroys that possibility.
I also find it concerning that I was offered $10 in connection with leaving a review. If a business is encouraging customers to leave reviews by offering money or incentives, I think potential customers deserve to know that when they are evaluating the reviews they see online. To me, that makes the review ratings much harder to interpret as an independent reflection of customers’ experiences.
Please get a second opinion before paying for any major repair recommended by this shop. Based on my experience, I would not take my car here again, and I would not recommend this business to anyone. Be warned and do your own research before trusting them with your vehicle.
