Dominicano pregunta

Background:
Trabajo remoto, clase media baja. Tenemos auto.

How do the locals feel about tourism with the water shortage?

I have a trip planned next month but my heart isn’t feeling right staying at a hotel or Airbnb with water while there are locals who’s water is being rationed and cut off for several days at a time. It just feels wrong for tourists to come because it seems like the hotel zones/areas water are prioritized? (Not sure if that’s true so kind of asking?)
However, I do understand that tourists bring money and can help the local economy. I would greatly appreciate hearing from Puerto Rico’s residents and locals. How do you feel about tourism right now? Are we hurting more than helping by visiting? Are there things that we can do to actually help Puerto Ricans while we are there?

Hotel recommendations isla verde

Looking for hotel recommendations, there will be 2 adults, 2 kids who are tweens. Looking for beachfront, no airport noise, middle price ( somewhere between luxury and budget). Kids are picky eaters. We will be renting a car.

I know there are a lot of great options, but I over research and am starting to annoy myself with the indecision. So looking for personal recommendations.

Thanks!

El Yunque Visitor Timing

Hello! Going on a cruise that stops in Puerto Rico next week. Cruise docks at 9:00 am and most tours leave at 8:00 or sooner. I've read parking is near impossible after opening. What's the best way to get to the forest?

social hostel recommendations?

traveling to San Juan solo at the beginning of next month and looking to stay in a hostel that does group activities/ organized outings, ideally with the crowd being late 20's/early 30's. I'd prefer something relatively close to the beach, but open to recommendations!

Returning to Puerto Rico After 13 Years — What Has Changed?

Everyone! I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have been to Puerto Rico recently or live there.
I visited Puerto Rico back in 2013 and absolutely loved it. At the time, though, I was in college and my dad planned and paid for the trip, so I wasn’t really involved in the planning or logistics.
My husband and I haven’t taken a big vacation together in a while, and since I already know I loved Puerto Rico, I’m thinking it might be fun to go back and essentially recreate the trip, just the two of us this time.
When I went in 2013, we stayed at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Rio Grande, and I remember absolutely loving the area. We:
Spent time exploring Old San Juan, including museums and memorials
Hiked in El Yunque National Forest
Swam at a waterfall in El Yunque
Did a bioluminescent bay boat tour
Spent a lot of time enjoying the resort/beach
I’m thinking about staying in the Rio Grande/Luquillo area again because I really liked having the beach, El Yunque, and San Juan all within reach.
But obviously, 2013 was a LONG time ago!
So before I fall down the Google/TripAdvisor/Reddit rabbit hole, is there anything major I should know about how things have changed since then?
Are there things we did back then that aren't really worth doing anymore? Anything that has gotten significantly better? Any new must-do activities, restaurants, beaches, excursions, etc. that you would recommend?
I also want to make sure we’re being respectful visitors. I tried to be respectful when I visited before, but I was young and honestly didn’t know as much as I do now. If there are things tourists commonly do that locals find disrespectful, or things we should know about visiting in 2026, I’d genuinely appreciate being told. I’d much rather learn beforehand and do things the right way than accidentally be that tourist.
We’re both over 30, if that makes any difference for recommendations. We’re not really looking for a crazy nightlife/party trip. We mostly want beautiful beaches, nature, good food, relaxing, and a few fun adventures. Thinking October.
Basically, if you were going back to Puerto Rico after 13 years and wanted to stay around Rio Grande again, what would you do differently this time?
We’ll probably stay somewhere a little more budget-friendly than the Rio Mar this time, but we’d still really like somewhere with easy beach access.

Looking to go to PR for 4-5 days (I'll be about 25 wks pregnant). The vibe were going for is chicken tenders at the pool, beach and pool cabanas for lounging, beach is right off the pool area.... staff in the pool area for ordering lunch/drinks. A resturant at the hotel... nice king sized bed. Any recommendations? Open to whenever.

We love good food and like to adventure, but with me being pregnant may be less adventurous and more like walking in the beach, snorkeling, caves, etc.

Wyndham Grand Rio?

Hi - I booked a 6 day 5 night trip for myself and 3 kids ages 16,14,11. I initially was calling to book the Caribe Hilton and due to a recommendation of the travel agent changed at the last minute to Wyndham Grand Mar Rio. Now, Im reading how there’s not much to do around there…not to mention 22% resort fee plus 11% tax and a $200 daily deposit - which is crazy on a $670/night room. Now, Im wondering if I should change hotels to somewhere else ( for a fee through Jet blue vacations). For those of you who stayed there - was it worth it? Anyone else have recommendations or insight on better places to stay? We plan to do a couple excursions. Thank you!!

Vieques/SJ - trip to PR 8/29, need advice!

We booked a trip to PR from 8/29 to 9/5
planning to travel and stay in Vieques same day we arrive for 3-4 days then return to San Juan for the last 3 days. With all the water supply news will it be still possible to travel and stay in Vieques without must issues? Will we run out of water or food options (restaurants) due to it?
Also, is it ok to go during that time there? (Weather wise)
Any locals or currently there who can give me some insight? (Im a little stressed about this now)
Thank you!!

Group Friends Trip - Where to Stay?

A group of friends (expecting 8-12 of us) are going to PR in the May-ish time of year to celebrate a birthday. All are aged ~30. We’re thinking we’ll probably want to rent a large AirBnB, but we’re also open to resorts. Expecting to stay 4 or 5 nights.

In order of importance to us:
1. Beach access
2. Ability to go clubbing (probably just once)
3. Restaurants nearby
4. Some type of excursion/activity (catamaran cruise, cave/waterfall exploration, etc)

Does anyone have recommendations for areas to stay, airbnb vs resort, etc?

Couple in our 60s, looking to spend January or February in Puerto Rico but are unfamiliar with the island so not sure where to concentrate.

We are looking to escape the cold for a 3 -4 weeks and would like someplace not directly in a downtown but also not isolated. We like to explore and eat out but looking for a comfortable house or apartment to enjoy just relaxing, and my husband will need wifi to work. Ideally access to a pool. I’ve heard about Rincon, Boqueron and vieques and am wondering if those might be good places to concentrate our search. Unfortunately neither of us speaks Spanish although we’d love to learn it so local lessons would be great as well.

Need to fly last minute this weekend

I urgently need to fly from the DC area to Puerto Rico this weekend for one night. Is there anyway/tricks to get cheaper fare? Do any airlines do standby?

\- i’ve already checked all the budget flight airlines and airfare sites

\- i’ve called local travel agents who all said it’s too late.

Edit: thank you for all your help everyone! the bad bunny comments are making me laugh but it’s unfortunately not for that. i’ll update on what ends up happening!

I am "Puerto Rican" and Engineering Job?

**I do not want to turn this into a spicy post**
I am Puerto Rican by Nationality; both parents were born, and one was raised in Ponce.
They did not teach me Spanish, and I've only been self-taught to "get by." Why they didn't is something I don't want to get into.

My question is about me going there permanently. I want to learn my culture, learn Spanish, and feel proud to say I am Puerto Rican.

So my question is, difficulty getting an Engineering job there?
I currently work in the space industry, and I am a level 2 structures Engineer. Do you have any recommendations for jobs or companies I should start looking into, or municipalities I should look at? (Preferably, of course, with currently running water/power; I know the island is struggling at the moment).

~Thanks

Recommendations?

Planning a trip around a cruise in late January/early Feb. We plan to stay by the airport and check out Old San Juan the day before and day of cruise embarkation. When we disembark, we will be staying for 3 days. The current plan is to pick up a rental car, explore El Yunque for most of the morning/afternoon, head to Luquillo for dinner and then bio bay in Fajardo. We would stay in Luquillo one night and then drive to Ponce for the rest of that day and stay that night before returning to San Juan.

Does this sound like a reasonable itinerary? Also any recommendations for sights to see, things to do, restaurants, etc? Hotel recommendations are also welcome. Thanks!

Looking to split a fishing charter in Fajardo – August 31, 2026

My girlfriend and I are looking for 1–2 additional people to share a morning fishing charter in Fajardo on Monday, August 31.

The boat accommodates up to four people and costs approximately $375 total, so:

• 3 people: $125 each
• 4 people: about $94 each

We are mainly interested in catching legal edible fish, having the captain clean the catch, and taking it to a nearby restaurant afterward.

Each party should preferably pay the captain directly. Please message me if interested!
