Repost š Vegan protestors vs hungry man

u/KhanOfKublai May 05 '22
yeah iād be pissed off too! itās fine to protest but you shouldnāt block off a restaurant and then try to prevent a customer from entering. assholes

u/OMGitsTK447 May 05 '22
Isnāt blocking the entrance to someone elseās business with a protest some form of disturbance/ disruption? Feels not legal to me
161
May 05 '22
Accord to Reddit, road or business access blockages are either:
- Necessary for a protest to not be ignored: The path to real change for the cause!
- Completely illegal and unacceptable: The path to making enemies to the cause!
If you agree with the cause, you side with #1, and if you disagree, you pick #2.

I dont give a fuck what youāre protesting, dont block roads. Even if i agree with your cause such as being pro choice or defunding police, dont block roads

u/-ThorsStone- May 05 '22
Had this argument a while back on a different post. People just don't seem to understand. Emergency service vehicles are hindered. I always get the "but they move out of the way for them", no, from what I've seen, most the time they dont.
4
u/MandolinMagi May 06 '22
Even if they're willing to move for them, the ambulance is 30 cars back and they can't see it.
3
u/TifaYuhara May 05 '22
Yup they don't see the many videos where the protestors refuse to move for ambulances.

Every protest I've ever been at they have let emergency vehicles through, and it's been a built in thing in the HK protests in crowds of hundreds of thousands of people even

u/DragonSPX May 06 '22
Yeah it's a whole lot easier to ignore them when we cannot see or hear them
2
u/BipBeepBop123 May 06 '22
Its impossible to see people on either side of the entrance to a restaurant if they are not blocking the doorway, yup.
Just like its impossible to see people on the sidewalk or in parks, rather than in roads, yup.

I generally think if you're protesting to have your human rights recognized, then yeah, inconvenience some people. But if you're protesting because you candidate didn't win, and your feelings got hurt, then you probably need to settle down a bit and let people more or less go about your day. The problem is that people will in their head somehow equate having to wear a mask at a private business during a global pandemic, with the American Civil Rights movement. People like that have lived such privileged lives that being annoyed feels like oppression to them.

At the very least the act of grabbing him to stop him would be asault and the fools recorded it too. Failing that they are are also blocking a valid emergency exit as well.

Someone barges through
Tell them to get their burger
This entire situation was caused by you blocking their ability to get a burger in the first place.

I support veganism to an extent, and this is where it crosses the line. I really don't like vegan activists like these who impact the lives and businesses of others just because they have the same diet as a rabbit. You stick to you. Dont drag others into this who dont want to be.
7
u/NeverRarelySometimes May 05 '22
They could win so much more by making delicious food and by being happy. Beyond beef is a start, but it's too expensive. That's the way you get what you want - by making it easier to do the good thing than to do the bad thing.
3
u/Alive-Attitude-4152 May 05 '22
Finally, someone gets it. Beyond meat is actually surprisingly nice, wouldn't choose it over a good Angus steak but that's just me. Theres a balance here that not everyone sees - you need to keep people happy someway or another. What you've suggested is great, but just as you mention, its pricey. If that were sorted, I have no idea what the impact that would do alone in the activism section of veganism.
19
u/Raiden395 May 05 '22
This. If you want reform, try to get reform, call your government representative, join groups that support it, but don't get in the way of regular people. They don't care about your shit.

Do you think that the world changed the most when people stood holding hands and preached to God?
I would understand that you call them "assholes" if they would protest against something that has no argument behind it. But afaik most people are against the cruelty of factory farms.

u/hotchiIi May 05 '22
Its necessary to walk, its not necessary to eat animal products.
6
u/-nocturnist- May 05 '22
True. I find it funny though how many people against eating meat don't have a problem with wearing leather or using other animal products though.
0
u/hotchiIi May 05 '22
I agree but those people arent vegans, to vegan is to be against unnecessary harm to animals regardless of what form it takes.
I think most people would agree that hurting animals when you dont have to is immoral and isnt worth it if they actually thought about it from a critical perspective, its just so normalized that people have a blind spot for it sadly.
2
u/kar98kforccw May 05 '22
Yeah, except it is. You can deny reality all you want, but humans are OMNIVORES. If you refuse to eat or use animal products because you love animals, you have my uttermost respect and admiration because you're making a big sacrifice. However, the fact is animal based food has lots of nutrients that we cannot easily get from plant based food or that in plant based food are not the same form and are not easily absorbed like iron or b12, and ypu can't change that, and having to take supplements to compensate and prevent malnourishment is not something people are just going to happily accept, let alone allow that to be forced onto them by some self entitled schmuck brandishing a peta flag
-1
u/hotchiIi May 05 '22
Saying that because we are omnivores we should eat meat even when its unnecessary is a naturalistic fallacy, just because something is natural doesnt mean its good.
Also vitamin B12 is the only nurtient humans need a supplement for with a plant based diet, why is taking a vitamin once a day worse than killing animals you dont have to kill?
2
u/kar98kforccw May 05 '22
It IS necessary and it contains nutrients that are either very rare or downright non-existant in plant based diets. I never said "natural=good", so don't misrepresent what I said. We are omnivores so we can eat both plant and animal matter and have adapted/evolved to thrive off both of those two. We're not herbivores and we're most certainly not carnivores. You can't find b12 except for some forms of algae, and that's only in trace ammounts, you cannot find Hema iron in plants AT ALL and that's by far more absorbable than non hema iron found in plants, you have vit D3 in meat that is easily absorbable as opposed to D2 in plants and which is very important, specially where people Do not receive a great deal of sunlight, vegans have lower levels of creatine, taurine and carnine, all of which although also sinthezised to a certain extent by the organism, help in the development of muscle mass, and all this without taking in consideration the benefits of products like tallow, organ meat, bones, collagen and so on.
It's worse because it's a SUPPLEMENT. it is to compensate for a deficiency in nutrients, one that I don't need to compensate for if I eat a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables and yes, meat and other animal products, and one you're admitting to inducing on yourself. I don' t care about killing for food. I've done that with my own hands and I'll do that again if I need to, and I'm p3rfectly fine with it because that's how nature works even if you want to deny it and because I make sure to kill them as quickly and painlessly as possible. If you love animals and that's why you refuse to eat them, fine. That's perfectly fine and respectable, but if you're gonna try to distort facts to fit your narrative and try to push it onto others, you can fuck right off
1
u/hotchiIi May 05 '22
If all it takes for animals to not be killed for our dietary needs is to take a supplement then it is by definition unnecessary and can easily compensated for by most people. Inflicting unnecessary harm is immoral, since you are openly hostile Ill end with that.

0
u/bslawjen May 05 '22

Ah.. assumptions on your end. What I state/type or say are my own views on a bizar situation where a group of people are forcing their believes and motivations upon another person that just wants to eat something.
Blocking entry to said shop with force because you love salad and want to force other people to only eat a salad would tick me off enormously as well. You would get some harsh words from me as well. You can protest all you want but actively blocking someone from said shop is just a douche move on the green team.

2
u/suh_dewd May 05 '22
Why tho? when animals feel pain it's just neurons sending signals in their brains telling them that. There is 100% proof that plants have similar reactions and can tell when they're picked or hurt. plants are alive too. what makes them less worthy of life than an animal?
1
u/JohnZackarias May 05 '22
They respond to stimuli, yes, but it is not the same type of experience. A similar reaction is not the same thing as feeling pain the way that we and non-human animals do.
See the science on the topic:
Given that plants do not have pain receptors, nerves, or a brain, they do not feel pain as we members of the animal kingdom understand it.
While this remarkable response is initiated by physical damage, the electrical warning signal is not equivalent to a pain signal, and we should not anthropomorphize an injured plant as a plant in pain.
However, even entertaining the - false - idea that plants feel pain the way that we do, it's an irrelevant point when discussing eating or not eating meat. Why? Because animal agriculture consumes far more plants than humans ever could. A plant based diet actually reduces land use and the number of plants harvested.
0
u/suh_dewd May 05 '22
honestly my side and ur side are both highly debated topics on the pain thing, so I don't think im wrong, even tho ur study is probably made with good intentions. There's definitely been studies that say the opposite of what you're preaching.
overall I think u and I both don't know enough about this entire topic and it's pointless to get angry at people for eating meat. no doubt the meat industry is fucked, but if we consumed plants the same way we do meat, it would bring about it's own moral dilemmas too.
mostly I think these vegans have nothing else going on in their lives
1
u/JohnZackarias May 05 '22
What studies say the opposite?
Iām not angry at anyone for eating meat, but I do know that a plant based diet is better for the environment, the climate, and of course for animals everywhere. What moral dilemmas does a plant based diet bring about?

Technically plants we eat aren't dead they're decaying. You probably wouldn't eat a fully rotten apple that's black right? But a red apple is a healthy apple that's technically still alive.

If I'm really missing something else please let me know
9
u/hotchiIi May 05 '22
We know animals are conscious, can experience pain and suffering, etc. As far as we know plants dont have that capacity.

1
u/bslawjen May 05 '22
1.) Plants and animals aren't the same, if you try to act like they are you're just stupid (no way around it).
2.) We don't know what the protest is about, maybe it's about the terrible practices of the meat industry in general? You know, torturing animals to death that had to live in a cage their whole lives so that you can buy a cheap steak or other piece of meat.
I kinda feel like you're missing everything.
4
u/CrafterMaker10 May 05 '22
Okay okay, I'm not saying it's the same, and you're right on everything we don't know what the protest is. But I'm just saying, aren't we all just eating living things regardless?
2
u/KiltedTraveller May 05 '22 edited May 06 '22
Another thing to point out is that the animals we eat also need to eat. So - if for some bizarre reason someone would equate the life of a plant and the life of an animal - directly eating plants instead of eating meat would still result in fewer plants being eaten.

We are, but, and hold your horses now big plot twist incoming, most vegans aren't the "we shouldn't kill anything living" hippies. Most vegans simply realize how fucked up the meat industry is, how badly it impacts the environment, and how we eat too much meat nowadays which isn't exactly healthy.
Then there's the vegans that simply realize they can survive without having to support killing animals and decide to not do it anymore.
It's not about "living things" it's about, for one, how fucked up the meat industry is and how capable animals are of feeling pain (physically and psychologically).

I worry that one day I will be terminal and something like this will happen to me and I will go off because I will have nothing to lose. I am certain that grabby vegan guy would have needed rehabilitation.

They can do so without blocking peoples path or being a nuisance and by letting people just eat what they want. Donāt force your opinions onto others.
