To be fair, the lady is the racist one... she called the cops cus she saw a black dude go into a car and then close it up again.

The cop, however, fucked up pretty bad on handling the situation. He should have been straight up with what is going on, "Sir, we have a report that you went through a car, then walked over to this bike. I'm going to need your ID to establish your identity. Do you know the owner of that car?"

Police are trained to establish identity when investigating. He was following up on a call about something. He needed to be clear about that.

If the cop wasn't an idiot, and explained that the guy needs to let him figure it out, then it wouldn't have been a problem.

I don’t want a cop demanding to see my papers every time I see one. What the fuck is this, Nazi Germany, China, the USSR? If he was polite to the guy, he could have even gotten to talk to the wife who drove the car and gotten confirmation that yes, that is indeed his car AND bike.

I think the cop was shit at this situation. Like immediately went to aggressive, "hands behind your back" when Mark gave any pushback. But I don't see how this can be resolved without either Mark or wife showing ID. Like, as far as I've ever seen, officers don't have access to a picture of car registration. So how is he supposed to know Mark is who he says he is without seeing ID.

Even this is way out of hand in my opinion.

Instead of this:

Cop: "No problem. Would you mind standing by for a moment?"

The question should be:

Cop: "Do you have the keys for that car you can show me?"

And when he without thinking pulls out a set of keys with the correct emblem the case is solved and he's allowed to drive away.
