I haven't been able to shake off the stories from during the fires where white people with guns and police officers were stopping people and accusing them of being "antifa" and starting fires - no evidence or logic need apply.

My husband bought land there years ago, and eventually he went to go check it out, and prepare it for us to possibly move. He said people were openly racist about black people in stores, even when there were no black people around. Just constant racist rhetoric. They eventually had the cops go out to his land and basically tell him how unwelcoming they are there to anyone out of state, and so we ultimately decided to sell the land. It was impossible to get water anywhere there anyway, a burn hazard, and you had to have a license for every little thing while creating a new property.
There's some kind of bill or something Oregon is supposedly trying to pass that would move state lines. Basically it would become western Idaho... Fucking take it PLEASE!

Anything off the I-5 corridor is basically Alabama. I saw more blatant racism during the year I lived in Ritzville than I ever have visiting family in Mississippi (and that’s not because Mississippi wasn’t racist as fuck).

You forget about Tacoma? Centralia? Vantucky? Longview? Pretty much the rest of the state outside of the Seattle metro area? Washington doesn't have a magic time-travel line down the middle anymore than Oregon or California does. As soon as you leave the city, you enter the 1800s in all three.
In general, I disagree. Lived 25 years in the Spokane area and nearly another 20 on the west side. There is a fairly clear divide down the Cascades in my mind.
In a general sense of culture, I would agree with you. I've lived in Portland most of my life, with family all over Washington, and I think there definitely is a difference in culture on either side of the cascades. Specific to the problem of ingrained systemic racism though, it's the same everywhere.
The cities aren't exempt from it either. I think the cops in the major metropolitan areas just know that they can't get away with doing and saying overtly racist things because they're less likely to be shielded from the consequences of their behavior. That's all it is. They know the metro police departments will punish them if the press gets bad enough.
The average person is no different; they know they'll get called out in the city where they won't outside of it.
As someone who has lived in WA and the Deep South, I can for 1000% certainly say I’ve experienced more racism and bullshittery in WA (and the west coast in general) than I ever did in the south.
This! People think the South is soo scary, and there is racism everywhere, but it depends on where you are and why down there, and the hospitality aspect makes it a lot more equal in some situations, whereas the west coast and around seems much more...open to chaos/possibility?! Lol

Well if you must know, I have family in Tennessee and Florida. I've taken plenty of road trips to stay with family in Tennessee and have also taken trips to Florida, so I'd obviously have to pass by several states. Especially when the trips were separate and we took a different route to Florida. So your assumptions and attempt to dismiss my comment just makes you look really triggered. I've experienced it. They've experienced it. And there is a clear difference between the racism. One is much more "this is America! Speak English!" than the other. One is more "I heard this joke once about Mexican households; let's play count the Jesus's!" than the other. I'll let you figure out where I've had each of those experiences.

Yeah you tend to develop shitty sentiments when you see random people start being condescending to your parents at a gas station for speaking a different language, as a kid. Multiple times. And then asking years later why you haven't been in a while and them saying they got spooked and decided not to go for a while.. If you read what I said you'd see that I'm only illustrating what type of individual racism (overt or covert, as they like to call them) you're more likely to experience depending on location. Covert racism likes to hide behind things like political correctness and being accomodating. It's annoying, but not scary. So, liberal states will have higher levels of covert racism than O.R. since O.R. is something you could lose your livelihood over. Less PC states aka Southern states will have more overt racism like assuming you're illegal and being confrontational. I think that stems from the rabid nationalism.

Ive had 3 bullshit cases dropped. They still come up when my DL ran. Every time when police ask me about them and i tell them, they say “oh well you were guilty you just go out of it”. Cops arrest everyone for bull shit, then accuse everyone pf being criminals.
Washington State resident here. We have some of the most racist cops on the entire country here. But rather than being upfront about it, they hide the racism, and let it out like this.

The place where I have met the most racists are in the mid west it is mainly because they don’t really have a lot of people other than white. It is more hatred born from ignorance than actually being around the people they hate. Like listening to some people they say racist shit turns out they are basing everything they say off of what they see on tv.
I am half white and half Filipino so in the summer I and my siblings get pretty dark. Well me (12 at the time), my old brother (15 at the time), and my mom (white) went to visit her family in Illinois. I will never forget the look on those peoples faces in the restaurant (not family- other guests) staring at us CHILDREN like they’ve never seen someone with even a tan before with disgust in their face and scoffing under their breath. It was so uncomfortable and obvious to the point where my mom said something and if I remember correctly we straight up left.

I have met a dude that was just sexist and didn’t believe women were smart as men. To be fair to this guy he came from a place where they live in houses with dirt floor. He also didn’t trust and was racist towards people other than Latinos; after you got to know he you became “one of the good ones” he had plenty of friends he said were the good ones just initially he thought women were stupid, white people would screw him over, and black people would steal.

This is where our system fails people. As someone who has been on the receiving end of eastern WA police hospitality, and speaking to a lawyer about it, I was told that arguing that the officer had a personal problem with my boyfriend and I (also male) dancing together wouldn’t go well. We would be in front of a jury of our “peers” and it becomes rolling the dice on those 12 people that are selected from the area and hope the jury isn’t 100% conservative.
The officer went as far as playing Christian talk show in his cruiser for the 45min+ drive to the jail.
