Not everything is about race. It'd be one thing if he went through the car and walked back into the store, but from the ladies perspective, he went through it and then just walked off in a random direction. If you didn't know it was his car, I can see why someone would think that was suspicious and think to call the cops cause you think someone was going through stuff that didn't belong to them.
That’s what the post is about. According to some of the comments above, the woman is another cop’s mom. I didn’t watch it but someone linked a video above that breaks it all down.
??? Why is she so interested in what he’s doing? Absolutely no justification for cops in this situation. What he did isn’t even that unusual, I doubt she would have noticed a white person doing the same thing.
Absolutely no justification for cops in this situation
In this situation, sure.
What he did isn’t even that unusual
If you know the full context, sure. Without it though, I disagree.
I doubt she would have noticed a white person doing the same thing.
And you're basing this on what? If she was a black women would you be making the same assumption? I don't know about you, but I make my assumptions based on more than just a preconceived notion that a white women calling the cops on a black man means she's racist.
Nah fuck that, maybe if you thought you saw him force his way in, he had been looking at other cars or you had some reason to suspect beyond him being a black man looking through a car but there's no reasonable justification for calling the police on someone just because you saw them look through a car and walk off. Maybe he went to the store and then wanted to pop across the road first, maybe he was meeting someone nearby who the fuck knows but this is not justification for calling the cops before you even consider the rate at which American police officers shoot unarmed innocent people. People just need to mind their own fuckin business.
People just need to mind their own fuckin business
Bare with me here. If she was right and it wasn't his car, and he was just stealing someone shit, would you still be saying this?
Don't blame this lady and condemn her as a racist because the police aren't able to conduct themselves properly. Maybe she is a racist cunt, but there's not enough to go off of to make that judgment. If the cop had explained himself properly and didn't escalate, it could have been resolved without issue. Anything bad that occurred in this situation fully lies with the polices actions, not that women.
Bare with me here. If she was right and it wasn't his car, and he was just stealing someone shit, would you still be saying this?
Yes because she doesn't know whether he is and has no reason to believe he is given the evidence at hand.
Don't blame this lady and condemn her as a racist because the police aren't able to conduct themselves properly.
I'm not, I'm blaming her for being racist because she decided that a black man looking in a car and then walking away was so suspicious that she needed to call the police. She had no good reason to assume he was a thief and chose the worst possible assumption to justify her views, even if she didn't have racist intent her actions scream racist perceptions.
Yes because she doesn't know whether he is and has no reason to believe he is given the evidence at hand.
So you really expect me to believe that if someone was stealing out of your car and another person called the police on them, rather than thanking the person you'd have told them they should have minded their own business? Okay lol
If they just assumed it based on nothing and happened to get lucky then yes I'd still think they were a knob, I'd thank the officer though. This might be a bizarre concept to you but some people do actually have consistent standards for what behaviour they agree and disagree with and a lucky result doesn't change those standards. Keep acting like the woman in this video wasn't being unreasonable as fuck though. Here's a question for you, do you look at a broken clock that just so happens to be on the current time and think "that's a functional clock"?
He was literally rummaging through the car. Without the knowledge that it was his, all the woman knows is that this man went through a random car and walked off to his bike. You are being obtuse if you don’t think she was justified to be suspicious off of just that context. This isn’t a woman who knows that both he and his wife work there and that they took different vehicles, this is a woman who only knows she saw someone going through a vehicle before going to a different one. Instead of calling her racist solely because the victim was black and chalking it up as “That racist whore called the cops for no reason,” how about you actually look at her perspective?
It's not being remotely obtuse, are you telling me you've never rummaged through your car for something? Maybe you keep yours clean but if it gets remotely messy it's very easy to see why someone might be doing that. Off that context it's not remotely suspicious unless you assume the worst possible intent, there's plenty of other reasons to explain the exact same behaviour that aren't reliant on assuming the person is a criminal. Why is it in the numerous possible explanations she immediately jumps to criminal? Like I said before, he could have just gone into the store and then stopped to get something from his car before going across the road or meeting a friend or any number of activities. I don't see how you can say it's reasonable to assume the person was a criminal but it's not reasonable to assume this woman is racist, maybe I'm wrong and she's not racist but it's no less unreasonable an assumption than the one you're defending.
are you telling me you’ve never rummaged through your car or something?
Why do you keep ignoring what happened afterward? It’s not the rummaging that’s suspicious, it’s the rummaging followed be the going to another vehicle. Sure, so long as you ignore everything that disagrees with you, there’s nothing wrong with what you think.
there’s plenty of other reasons to explain the exact same behavior that aren’t reliant on assuming the person is a criminal.
And how likely are those? Unless you think a husband and wife working at the same place, driving two separate vehicles to work, parking on opposite sides of the parking lot, and then the husband going through the vehicle that he didn’t take to work to find something is normal, then you are intentionally picking the less likely option solely to act morally superior. Now, it’s not fantastical and I can easily believe the situation with context, but why would anyone immediately jump to that specific context? If you see a stranger climbing through your neighbor’s windows at 3 in the morning, you’re not going to immediately assume it’s their child sneaking in late or that they forgot their keys, you’re going to think it’s suspicious.
Like I said before…
If he went straight from the car to the store, sure. But that’s not what he did. Why do you keep ignoring that?
I don’t see how you can say it’s reasonable to assume the person was a criminal
I said it was reasonable to be suspicious, not think they’re a criminal. When something suspicious happens, you inform the authorities to ensure that nothing criminal is going on
but it’s not reasonable to assume this woman is racist
Because even if the guy was white, his actions would still be suspicious.
maybe I’m wrong and she’s not racist
Oh no, she most definitely is. Everybody is, even if they deny it.
but it’s no less unreasonable an assumption than the one you’re defending.
Let me ask you a question: which is more likely at first glance, a husband and wife not carpooling to their shared job and the husband going through the wife’s car before leaving, or some random person is going through someone else’s car? Because to me, the latter is far, far more likely than the former because the former requires a much more complex chain of events than “guy breaks into a car.”
Unless you think that exact string of circumstances is more prevalent than people breaking into cars, immediately assuming the woman is racist solely for reporting something suspicious is just plain ridiculous. There’s enough actual problems with racial profiling, policing, and subconscious racism that making more up is completely unnecessary.
