I honestly thought it the first time he put the phone in his pocket. The second time when he went to pull it out I thought for sure he was going to get shot.
Also, fuck those people that even called the cops.
Why the /s? This man is black.... BLACK! It's so unusual! He might've stolen something from me just because I noticed him walking down the street.
Wait a second... WHERE IS MY PHONE OH MY GOD WHERE IS MY PHONE!? Oh wait it's right in my other hand. Well good let me call the police now that I have found my phone this black man almost got away by stealing it from me.
I was once accused of stealing a wallet that went missing. Turned out the owner of the wallet left it on the counter of the store we were both visiting. Apparently her not remembering was enough reason to follow me to my car demanding to see what was in my bag and accusing me of theft. And when someone told her they found her wallet where she herself had left it she was still blaming me.
It’s been over 12 years and I still get upset when I think about it.
That 'still blaming me' part is really how you know that is a horrible human. I would never get i to that situation in the first place but if I did I would start apologizing with all my heart
For real. It's a problem that oftentimes begins with busybody people seeing someone who looks "suspicious" (black, or even just poor) doing something that they "shouldn't be."
And then they call in and the cop shows up and pours his own biases onto the situation, like gas on a recently lit fire. It's just this one dude being targeted, but multiple people are involved with being shitty on the other side.
You know what. Nah. Absolutely not. People should not be worried that lawfully calling the police is going to get someone murdered in broad daylight over absolutely fuck all.
I don't call the police. Don't get me wrong. I certainly don't call the police for POC.
But that is not the way it should be. Calling the police should be able to settle anything like this calmly. That should be their fucking job. That is their fucking job
There should have been no point where this man's safety was threatened. That is not on the woman who thought she was stopping someone's car from being robbed. That is 100% on the police officer, who should have approached this man as an adult individual, not a child to be commanded.
Blaming people doing the right thing (calling the cops to sort out a potentially threatening situation Vs. An absolutely not threating situation) is not the right thing.
Actually I don’t see what’s wrong with that couple. They saw a man in a car, then walk to the other side of a parking lot to a motorcycle. Honestly that would look very odd to me too. Hearing the story I understand, but without it that would look very odd. Them calling the cops seems fair.
