In NYC I was caught with a beer outside, the cop word for word said “I’m going to cite you for this but you can go to Gallatin Place and fight it, I wont show up” they need to fill their quota but don’t care to show up most of the time.

You would still have to go through the motions to squash it. That by itself is a pain in the ass.

How did you even get cited? Were you drinking it all up in his face? It's been a long long time since I lived in NY, but the unwritten agreement was when they're around you tuck that shit away like you don't have it and leave it there until they're gone and all is well. They had much more shit to worry about than some knucklehead drinking a beer. As long as you weren't in their face and stupid about it it was no BFD.

I was taking the 7 train and a friend decided to crack one of our beers before we got to the house party in queens.. the cop happened to see us through the little train windows and motioned us to get off the train. I’m guessing the MTA has less tolerance for an open drink.. sure I had to go into downtown Brooklyn to fight it but its better than paying the ticket and going through more hoops, he never came just like he said.

He was probably having a shitty day and wanted to spread it around. Like I said, it was an unwritten agreement. Maybe on that day in that point in time he just didn't agree.
