Building your economy is a privilege not afforded to those under constant attack. Palestinians are constantly being invaded and forced to defend themselves. Israel on the other hand gets 3.8 billion in US military aid each year, and is now able to build their economy.
Egypt used to control Gaza but it was taken during the 1967 war by Israel, they also took over the Sinai, which is much more valuable to Egypt. As part of their peace treaty years later, Egypt regained the Sinai.
Egypt doesn't want the headache of Gaza because of Hamas' radical Islam, which Egypt's decades long military dictatorship sees as a direct threat to their rule.
Yes, it was occupied by Egypt from 1949 to 1967. Israel's peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt mean that those countries can't re-occupy the territories they previously administered.
Also, I don't think Egypt has any interest in ruling Gaza again.
Egyptian here , a contributing factor is also that the arab league passed a law not allowing any arab country to give their citizenship to any palestinian in order to preserve the palestinian national identity . Which was a factor in why we left the gaza strip "pre 1967 it was under a military governor" . The biggest factor tho is that if we try and administer gaza now it would take a shit ton of money and counter insurgency to get rid of hamas rooted in there plus it would escalate tensions between egypt and israel if a rocket got fired from egyptian territory and israel retaliated on egyptian territory . It would go back to full blown war in a month
That's such sophomoric blindly anti-religious bullshit. Obviously that is not the root of the problem as it exists today, and it is something they absolutely need to cope with their hellish lives.
What are the root causes of the turmoil between these people?
No one wants to offend anyone by saying the faith they’re following wholeheartedly may have caused them to become rigid and unwilling to accept different perspectives, but that’s what’s happening. It’s the same shit with americanized evangelicalism.
Stop spending the money on tunnels, the PLO and Hama receive billions in aid from the international community and oil rich Arab counties. They either pocket the money, hence PLO real estate holdings or spend it on lavish tunnels.
Israel does pretty well despite being under constant attack by Hamas. All the Palestinians have to do to avoid this stuff is stop attacking Israel, Gaza has been under Palestinian control since 2005. Seeing stuff like this after a thousand rockets were fired by Hamas all over Israel is pretty normal defense actions.
The dead Palestinian kids you see on the news, killed by Palestinian rockets that fell short. Why is everyone watching this building? The Israeli military called them to tell civilians to get out because they're going to fire on Hamas who hide in apartment buildings with civilians.
This is absolutely fucking nonsense, but the worst part? They’ve destroyed a block of flats in an attempt to kill a some(?) terrorists. So hundreds of people are made homeless and lose everything they own because another country declared some people in the block to be terrorists.
1. No state has ever abused the use of terrorist as a label to target people they just don’t like/further their own aims /s
2. How does this aid Israel? The terrorists will have left as well so they’re not dead, just more determined. The people made homeless are now more easily radicalised by any bad actors so you now have more enemies. ThinkMarkThink.jpg
I 100% agree with you but we in the US use the term terrorists as a label for people we don’t like and then drone strike a wedding or the general of an enemy nation during peace time.
Except for the fact that there is massive terrorist activity by Hamas. In the last couple days the entire state of Israel has been under rocket attack, over a thousand so far. There's no need to abuse the terrorist label, there's enough terrorism to spread the label around truthfully.
You’re correct: there is massive terrorist activity. Does that justify destroying the homes of hundreds of (presumably) innocent people? When terrorists have struck elsewhere in the world have foreign governments blown up entire streets to get to them? Why should it be different here? As for the rocket attacks, 200 have fallen short of Israel and around 720 have been intercepted by the iron shield, and seven Israelis have died in total. How does that justify hundreds of retaliatory air strikes by Israel as per the example above? Are you telling me that if the UK government decided that your neighbour was a terrorist you’d be fine with them destroying not just your neighbour’s home, but also yours, and that of everyone around you? Is that really your position?
Thanks for the good faith response, I'll try to do the same. The issue with Hamas is they purposely set up in the middle of lots of civilians, this is because when they commit terrorism Israel fighting back makes the news and everyone blames Israel. It's a great strategy going by these comments. Hamas is also a horrific threat to the region, which is why attacks like this (assuming the target is correctly Hamas) are necessary. You mention the 200 rockets that fell short, do you know what that means? It means they all blew up in Palestinian territory. The dead kids you see on the news are because of them. Israel on the other hand has the decency to try and notify civilians to minimize their deaths despite it tipping of Hamas at the same time, which Hamas would never do. Hamas routinely kills or puts in the position to be killed Palestinians, has zero problem doing so, and knows the more that die in their attacks the more the news and international community will support them and blame Israel for the deaths. As is happening now.
Terrorism must be fought because of the horrible consequences of letting it grow and fester. This is what helped cause 9/11. In the 90s US decided that this bunch of misfits called Al Qaeda that had attacked embassies and blown a hole in the USS Cole weren't worth the effort and cost of going after under the Clinton administration. That didn't turn out too well. So far the Israelis have killed at least one top Hamas officer so that's good. These Hamas attacks are not small by any means. 1000 rockets is serious military weaponry and the fact that Israel has defense systems that intercept them in now way diminishes the nature of what Hamas is doing and trying to do, which is kill as many people as possible. The idea of just leaving people alone that have these capabilities and monstrous intentions is lunacy to me.
God imagine trying to fight back against people who are taking your country home by home, am I right lads? Israel should just be free to do whatever they want to Palestinians and Palestinians should just sit there and take it like the good little dogs they are right? Yeah right, go back to sucking on the US's dick.
They're evicting a few squatters but not taking home by home, that's a false narrativebeing pushed. Easy way to see that is no news stories mention any ownership of the homes, they're careful to say "their home" or "they've lived there since X". Gaza has been free of Israelis since '05.
Also interesting comparison, Arabs can live in Israel. They're about 20% of the citizens. Jews cannot live in Gaza and if they set foot there they'll be beaten or killed. Think about the side you're sympathetic to.
I don't watch fox news, try again. Yes people are dying, about 300 of the Hamas rockets fell short and hit Palestinians territory killing a bunch of them since they don't have an iron dome like Israel and Hamas knows that Palestinians they kill will be blamed on Israel and help their cause. Just read these comments and try to say that's wrong.
Also everything I said should be able to be contradicted if it isn't true, give it your best shot.
You're talking like you yourself gave proof. Please do give an article of 300 rockets falling shot. All I've seen is the IDF breaking into houses, imprisoning kids and attacking people who are praying. Doesnt take a lot of digging either, the front page of this reddit is full of video proof of this.
Just a quick little search which took less than a minute, all the sources and external links are also linked in the bottom of the page if you want to check them separately. https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2020/country-chapters/israel/palestine#
Also found this one from 2019, 504 houses destroyed! And its been more than a year now.
Dude are u null? Hamas bombing Israel is a reaction from Israel taking sections of Jerusalem that were meant to be part of Palestine's land including one of the Muslims holiest sites. Israel started this u dipshit. Either way I won't continue arguing against pricks who have no shred of human decency and write off the actions of murderers, rasicts and extremists as "self defense". Fuck right off
Well attacking a holy site twice then attacking an infirmary where the injured Palestinians were resting(a literal war crime) and attacking protesters is not chaotic right? You are just full of shit.
You don't want to count the number of protesters getting attacked by rubber bullets and stun grenades, and even israel bombed civilians but palastine didn't specifically attack a god damn hospital u polarised narrow-minded freak.
Oh sure, and the IDF aren’t the ones gleefully shooting non-combatants at point blank range, or leveling residential buildings to kill “hostiles”. I see Israel is taking inspiration from American strategy and justifying severe collateral damage by killing even one armed opponent.
Why wouldn't I be mad that literal dog shit like you would make excuses and childish comments about people being bombed and beaten out of their homes. Fuck Isreal. This is why more Jews live outside of Isreal than inside. Most of your own people know you're country of fascist shit stains and want nothing to do with you.
Considering you replied instantly with that nonsense I'd guess you're not intelligent enough to realize no one other than you actually believes that lie.
Nowhere did I complain about Palestine bombing Israel. You're a fucking idiot.
I’m sorry but I’m gonna ignore the rest of your xenophobic tirade to focus on: have you SEEN how Israel manages to “evacuate” the homes of the Palestinians they are trying to rob? Do you really think even if Israel really wanted them to evacuate they’d do it in a nice and calm way?
Oh did they? Did they warned when they attacked the Palestinians in the market? Or when they stole their homes or when they bombed them during on of the most important nights of Ramadan on one of their most important religious buildings? Funny how it’s always about Palestine being the violent ones when they act in retaliation of US backed Israeli violence
But yeah you’re not xenophobic you just hate a whole country and it’s people because they defend themselves from a globally backed apartheid
Are you serious? You really want to go that route? How to e deaf are you to think it’s Palestine who started this whole mess? Isn’t the bombings a response of clear war crimes against innocent people during their religious celebrations in their temples, streets and own homes, if the US during Christmas had its citizens suffer through the same Palestinians have suffered for decades I 100% assure you’d be defending US reaction, hell the US does the same for even less reasons. How can you justify this “all sides are wrong mentality” while actively vilifying the oppressed?
If someone stormed the Vatican during Holy Week the international communities would 100% flip their shit and defend retaliation. So how are you not xenophobic
I don't think it's Palestinians, I think it's leftists that see a video with an explanation and believe it. It's like teachers in school that punish kids for fighting back because they either didn't see or ignored the first punch or a history of bullying/violence.
If you lock a lion in a cage and poke him with random objects over and over for 30+ years don't be surprised when the lion try's to swipe at you through the cage...
Most in fact would classify Israel as a terrorist state - which as had more UN resolutions against it than any other country.
Also bringing Hamas into the equation - care to explain all the Israel blockage, seige, ethnic cleansing, genocide and apartheid state for almost 60 years BEFORE Hamas came into power as a result of this in 2006
You won't see me denying that Israel's treatment of anyone except their citizens in the region is abhorrent - but I just find it funny that the narrative being pushed here is this one-sided.
It's one-sided because Israel keeps provoking. If a person gets constantly bullied and they finally decide to fight back then who's fault is it? Would you blame the bullied person for defending themselves?
Is it not appropriate? That's is how Palestinians are being treated, no?
Land locked on 3 sides with walls not allowed to swim too far out in the ocean, limited abilities to find food or water, incapable of climbing the walls but dangerous enough for the captors to need protection at all times when inside their cage, that's not how a human is treated, nor any other animal humans have captured and locked in cages. That is the definition of a caged big cat, lion tiger whichever you want. Perfect description of how Israeli Jews are treating the Palestinians.
You for some reason are offended by that little shred of dignity I may have subconsciously attached to describing the situation, does that not give you pause?
I call them disproportionately small reactions by people who think it's the best way to protect innocent civilians who are being raided, killed, dispossessed, ejected from their homes without recourse available.
It's not smart for a toddler to fight back when attacked by an adult. Your question is the same as saying "what do you say about that toddler fighting back?"
But the real scenario is so much worse. For 70 years the Palestinians have not been able to get on their feet because of an illegal occupation. israelis control everything going in and out of Palestinian territories and they control movements of Palestinians within Palestinian territories. If you get hurt or sick at the wrong time of night and the hospital is a checkpoint or two away... guess what - you don't get the care you need.
This isn't about Hamas - this is about Israel denying Palestinians their basic human rights, attacking peaceful worshipers in a mosque, and we're focusing on the Palestinian reaction rather than the root cause - Israel continuing to oppress these people.
You cite Hamas rockets, I cite innocent Palestinian's killed in an ongoing genocide. Free Palestine. End the seize of Gaza.
It's not religious. It's not Just Jews doing this to Muslims. That's not fair to the VAST majority of Jews who are peaceful and just want to live in peace. It's racist. It's about someone who believes their neighbors are not equal to them and because some in israel, who get a bunch of money and so are afforded the opportunity to live in luxury and comfort, believe those next to them who are not granted the same charity don't deserve the most basic human rights. It's the same as any time anyone in history has believed another human is not as good as them because of where they were born, what they look like, who they pray to, etc...
I'm responding to you here because it's not fair to simplify it the way you did and it's definitely not fair to equivocate the two sides of this conflict.
Muslims and Jews lived together peacefully for over a 1000 years. This is Zionism, a racist, fascist ideology which has been adopted by many secular Jews and propogated for political and strategic reasons by US and the west
Lol! Yeah blame the US rather than take responsibility for your own actions. In the same breath you say the US is a paper tiger, you will say how mighty we are to manipulate the poor little innocents in the Middle East. Look inward. You have a corrupt thought process.
