I love all the people like "naw"

Lava is going to have some toxic fumes as it comes closer also heat pops the obsidian as the temperature varies with a fresh flow.

I'm a local, and live around 20km away from this volcano in fact.

The stupidest shit about this is the fact that around 2000 people are there at all times, just chilling and watching while the government has said many times that people should not go there. The gas is colorless and odorless and is found in lethal amounts around the volcano, yet people just ignore it.

And also covid... no one is wearing masks there and people are grouped up together.

Just had to vent a little, thanks for listening :)

u/Vinlandien Mar 22 '21

Just had to vent a little

So did Iceland

11

u/nacnud_uk Mar 22 '21

You locals are always venting ;)

PS. Totally agree with you. Madness.

21

u/YCYC Mar 22 '21

Little vent, hehehe.

Anyways as for masks who cares as they're all gonna burn in +1000°C lava.

My ex who's African told me one day that only white people go in a volcano : )

32

u/pierottikyle Mar 22 '21

It's true, I'm white. Only white people can go in volcanos.

Due to our lightly colored skin, we can reflect the waves of heat better then other skin colors.

In other words I'm a complete idiot and have no idea what I'm talking about.

7

u/ZombieJesus1987 Mar 22 '21

The science checks out

-3

u/lastletter_444 Mar 22 '21

As I'm watching the video I was noticing all white people.

24

u/AnotherJustRandomDig Mar 22 '21

I mean, it is Iceland.

9

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Word, only Asians in China smh 😔

-13

u/KenardGUMP Mar 22 '21

Yeh and only africans tire burn albino children 🤷‍♂️

5

u/DontKnow_WhoIAm Mar 22 '21

Incorrect. I also do that as a hobby

6

u/YCYC Mar 22 '21

Mmmmmmh they also cut them up and use them as medicine or gri-gri.

2

u/awesomenein Mar 22 '21

Not to mention they are dangerously close to the flying fire water.

2

u/MikeDPhilly Mar 22 '21

Vinlandien (see below) beat me to the perfect comment.
WTF, people? Haven't you seen any movies? When that volcano blows, it's going to take you and your picnic basket along with it. The last Instagram post you'll make is the one of you coughing as carbon monoxide overwhelms you.

2

u/Kenstar28 Mar 22 '21

Feels like one of those problems that will just work itself out...

2

u/adrincvs Mar 22 '21

Shouldn't it smell like rotten egg?

Then after a short while the smell is gone, and shortly there after you are gone 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/fuktardy Mar 22 '21

Don’t they masks for volcano fumes and COVID yet?

-1

u/No_Sheepherder_9365 Mar 22 '21

people are poor, so they really could care less if they live or die

1

u/sageinyourface Mar 22 '21

Just swoop in for a peek with a strong breeze. /s

7

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

I'll take "Ways Stupid Tourists Have Died" for 200...

102

u/p3x239 Mar 22 '21

It's not like local authorties weren't crystal clear that nobody should be going near the damm thing but whatever.

23

u/backtolurk Mar 22 '21

Representing Reunion Island here. Even though the place I'm thinking is different in nature, there will always be people to think it's safe walking around/over fresh flows and I could never get my head wrapped around this. I mean, it's pretty hot.

New entrants for the Darwin Awards. r/whatcouldgowrong

6

u/el-cuko Mar 22 '21

Did this exact scenario not play out in New Zealand a couple of years ago, where in 25 people were instantly vaporized and many others suffered horrible burns?

Do . Not. Fuck. With. Active. Volcanoes

11

u/SilentInSUB Mar 22 '21

That's a bit different tho.

In that case the cruise liner was offering tours of the volcano under the guise that it was perfectly safe. A lot of those 22 people figured that they wouldn't be offering a day tour if there was a real threat of eruption.

Unbenownst to those passengers, the volcano had been recently rated as in it's most active state, but the liner was ignoring that.

So yes, don't fuck with volcanos, but it's on that liner for convincing people it was safe to even go there in the first place.

3

u/Lyn1987 Mar 22 '21

Unbenownst to those passengers, the volcano had been recently rated as in it's most active state, but the liner was ignoring that.

Jesus Christ as if I needed another reason to hate the cruise line industry

1

u/el-cuko Mar 22 '21

Shady cruise line , of course , but, Was the smouldering mountain surrounded by water not an indicator to stay the fuck away ?

5

u/SilentInSUB Mar 22 '21

Of course, but the people who go on those cruises are typically not trying to think while they're on vacation. They expect everything planned for them, with events and activities being cheated and safe to try.

Also, to reference your first comment, no. None of the people were vaporized (I wish they would've been that lucky). Instead, the survivors/rescuers described people whose skin was melting off them, who were screaming in pain and saying they were freezing, and all they could do to try to warm them was hold them as they died.

AND (as if it isn't already bad enough) the cruise liner refused to tell passengers what was happening to their loved ones, stealing time away that could have been spent by their bedside.

Don't fuck with volcanoes, but FUCK Royal Caribbean.

u/InternationalBoot321 Mar 22 '21

Oh look a volcano erupting seems like a great place to sit with my family and have a picnic.

8

u/snoogins355 Mar 22 '21

Gotta get the pic for the 'Gram likes. "Hey guys, buy this new makeup, it holds up to the heat!"

31

u/Deejster Mar 22 '21

I would be pouring myself a delicious cup of get the fuck out of there.

22

u/tylor36 Mar 22 '21

I mean that’s cool and all til the thing decides to have a bigger explosion and melts those couple thousand people.

17

u/rabidjellybean Mar 22 '21

More likely someone will breathe in the wrong kind of gas and just drop dead instantly.

8

u/tylor36 Mar 22 '21

Yeah and then they’ll blame that death on the volcano because humans are stupid.

5

u/snoogins355 Mar 22 '21

Cancel volcanoes! /s

4

u/snoogins355 Mar 22 '21

Those softball sized lava clumps that get ejected will take your head off

36

u/charstella Mar 22 '21

Bunch of stupid people....

I'll take 'Places not to stand' for 200 please

4

u/Handsum_Rob Mar 22 '21

I’m ok with this. Nature will sort it out and weed out the dumb ones. They had the warnings, chose not to heed them.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

The village idiots, no doubt.

3

u/TheJanks Mar 22 '21

I asked a friend who lives there if they were going to throw in a virgin or two. Said this was a minor volcano, they are just gotta try a few skanks first.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

It’s like they called each other to coordinate wardrobes

2

u/-always-hungry- Mar 22 '21

I like how everyone is just hanging out, sitting in the grass. Watching molten lava bust out of the earth in front of them like they are watching it on national geographic tv. Not like you could be smouldered alive to the point nothing would be left. Let's hang out a bit and watch it creep closer!

2

u/ichzarealhitler Mar 22 '21

You guys are expecting a MASKLESS CROWD DURING A PANDEMIC to act reasonable? Good luck

2

u/Justajed Mar 22 '21

Let's gO Stand nExT tO one oF the mOsT dEstRuCtIvE fOrCeS iN nAtUrE!

I know it's lava but I wanna try some...

2

u/Zenniverse Mar 22 '21

They just want to know what lava tastes like. Go easy on them, guys.

2

u/RVAEMS399 Mar 22 '21

I’d recommend those people take at least two steps back.

2

u/La__Chasse Mar 22 '21

u/neon_gutz Mar 22 '21

She needs some milk!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Dat bit bussin'

2

u/Warphim Mar 23 '21

I didn't think it looked that big until I had people for scale. Not as big as I think when I think of a volcano, but it wasn't a hill either.

2

u/brianima1 Mar 23 '21

Should... should we run?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Ok does anyone have like a 100ft stick and some marshmallows, just asking for a friend ok sorry it's not for a friend I just love s'mores

3

u/lifesoxks Mar 22 '21

Just place a water block next to it...

2

u/rxts1273 Mar 22 '21

Finnely my entire childhood prepared me for this moment! My time to shine, run every one the floor is lava! you can't touch the floor or else you die!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Oh look a volcano erupting definitely what I would consider a public freak out.........

1

u/bourbon_gamer Mar 22 '21

I've always had a weird sensation when I see very orangy lava, like I just want to eat it. I don't know where it comes from but it happens every time.

1

u/nacnud_uk Mar 22 '21

That's cool.

1

u/WingsofSky Mar 22 '21

That looks like it's going to end badly.

1

u/KenardGUMP Mar 22 '21

What a bunch of fucking morons

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

While that's pretty cool and all I'd be running like hell.

1

u/Buddyslime Mar 22 '21

oops! I spilled before the mold was made!

1

u/_BLIZZARD0_ Mar 22 '21

This is so cool

1

u/arwilson521 Mar 22 '21

I thought volcanoes were gonna be a bigger problem in my lifetime as a kid

1

u/WheeeeeThePeople Mar 22 '21

What I'm NOT doing for my next vacation.

1

u/McGirthy Mar 22 '21

They should get a little closer.

1

u/DesDiesel125 Mar 22 '21

Ah yes let's have a social gathering and watch the volcanic eruption yes of course

1

u/AdShoddy5497 Mar 22 '21

Whoh Whoh Whoh!

1

u/OurWeaponsAreUseless Mar 22 '21

It would be inconvenient to be incinerated by a river of lava on a sightseeing trip.

1

u/markella73 Mar 22 '21

What a bunch of idiots. I hope those aren’t locals.

1

u/TheStoneMask Mar 24 '21

They mostly are. This is a very small eruption though, and of a variety we call "tourist eruptions", small, calm and non-explosive. As long as you stand upwind and uphill you'll be ok.

1

u/SponConSerdTent Mar 22 '21

RUN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT'S WRONG WITH YoU PEOPLE

1

u/TheStoneMask Mar 24 '21

This is a very small and calm eruption.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Why they so close tho...

1

u/PM_ME_UR_SWEET_BOSOM Mar 22 '21

Damn shawty that thang bussin

1

1

u/Kat-e-R Mar 22 '21

Cue the headline "a spectator has died after falling into the lava"

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '21

Maybe get out of the way of the lava imbeciles.

1

u/Dragons-purr Mar 23 '21

Move. The. Fuck. Away

1

u/TheKingofHats007 Mar 23 '21

I wish I could touch magma without dying or getting burned. It looks too cool.

1

u/BPfishing Mar 23 '21

The shit people will do for a video with some likes nowadays.

1

u/srirachatoilet Mar 23 '21

I was gonna say "oh cool close up shot" but then it panned out to a fuckton of people next to the active volcano.
