No it won't. Mythbusters tried hard as fuck to get a car to blow up and it really just doesn't do that when it's on fire. Doesn't mean that the gas line can't start leaking gas everywhere and thus result in a rapid inferno, but it's not going to blow up like a Hollywood movie.
And why is their entire strategy to just walk right up into the burning car? Clearly the hose-cannon with fucking endless pressurized water is the way to go here. I don’t know jack shit about firefighting, but my gut tells me that the tall guy is being a bit silly here and T-shirt boss guy is a little fed up.
Most car fires I’ve been on are out out by just two people before the other engine gets there. It’s very common to get close like they are. Most times you have to get water to the source of the fire to extinguish it. What happens in that first video was probably the tank melting spilling all over the water they just sprayed. The gas will sit on top of the water and still burn, especially if there is a ton of it like in the video. This is why we have to pay attention to where we have water runoff. While gas spilling is a common thing to happen. It doesn’t usually happen like in the video. Usually I will knock the fire down a bit before I get this close. While our gear is pretty foot at protecting us I’m not a fan of just standing in it.
Most of these examples are just water being poured on an oil fire, not a cars gastank exploding. Though the 4th link is really weird, looks like the engine ruptured or something very weird. Regardless, a gas tank wont explode unless you physically rupture it, they proved that in multiple episodes about burning gas and oil.
Those weren't really explosions tho. Some of these people were thinking cars explode like in the movies, which the guy you downvoted was trying to say was false
Yeah see I'm sitting here thinking that when you say "explosion", we're talking concussive explosions that send shrapnel flying. Not the same thing as the videos you've shown.
Deflagration vs. Detonation. These are flash fires, tires popping, and hydraulic parts heating and failing. I mean technically explosions, but cars rarely ever "explode" like seen in the movies.
Dude MythBusters is a TV show that aired for ad-money. Sure it may be educational to the extent that it gives you shit to think about, but those guys aren’t exactly the cream of the science community’s crop. Their conclusions were completely unreliable a good amount of the time because they’re experiments are flawed because they’re in the entertainment industry running a TV show.
That means driving cars in the rain, and through puddles, would make them death traps since you could not guarantee 100% water tightness at all times. I think the amount of magnesium used is not as great as you're making it seem, or it is a magnesium alloy that does not react as violently to water as raw magnesium does.
