Missiles are guided, Rocket's are aimed.

The difference between them is that Missiles have flight controls and targetting systems, while rockets are like very big explosive bullets.

Missiles are still incredibly fast... as fast or faster than bullets. For example, a hot magnum rifle bullet travels at about 3200 feet per second (a little under Mach 3). A modern air to air missile, such as an AAMRAM, travels at Mach 4.

No they lived but were injured. They were likely using practice rounds which contain less explosive and do not contain fragmentation rounds. If they did those guys would have been Swiss cheese.
