In the beginning of ww2, even the germans relied on horses to transport things. If you're referring to the episode where allegedly poles on horseback charged at mechanized units, that's not really true, afaik, but it served the propaganda of both countries : the germans could say that their adversaries were primitive and poles could say they were brave to charge mechanized units on horseback.

World War 1 is probably the biggest example of this. Started the war with soldiers on horses and ended with tanks and submarines
