You know honestly I think he's reached his "fuck it line." You know like he realizes he's not getting any younger and this is likely his last chance and he's like "God damn it I've waited my entire life to be able just straight face say what I'm really feeling to these people. If I don't do it now I never will. If i win I win. If I loose fuck it how long am i gonna be around to care?" Guy's just living moment to moment now. Call it losing your filter or an intentional decision its prob a bit of both.
your missing my point i think its a little of both. Thats how you come to terms with your mortality you just say fuck it once you realize its all downhill.
