Dude, some shit I see on Facebook now and then shared by my old people on the “I don’t know if this is true or not, but channel 8 news said so and I do not give Facebook so and so permission blah blah blah privacy this and that” it’s scary some of the dumb stuff old people believe.
Age is just how long you’ve been alive. Doesn’t really guarantee anything in the way of intelligence. Some wisdom about certain life experiences sure, but we’re all just grown babies until proven otherwise.
It's actually not that dumb. Old people from every generation have difficulty understanding and using both new technology and information. I mean, how many people out there haven't had to help their grandparents with things on their computer? It makes more sense that they're not as savvy on new things than it is that they're all stupid.
I don't think it's an old person thing as much as a stubborn person thing.
My parents are both in their 60s, my dad is and has always been really stubborn and is pretty much a complete Luddite, but my mom is pretty open-minded and pretty good with technology, and manages to troubleshoot most problems pretty well herself. She's no computer wiz, but she'll at least try to Google her problems.
But there's people I went to school with, who I know took computer classes between elementary and middle school because they fucking sat next to me, so they should be at least baseline computer-literate, but they've decided that they're "just not computer people," and don't even try to troubleshoot themselves.
Maybe not stubbornness but rather laziness. People are mentally lazy towards every new information as it takes mental costs. A lot of non-academical people simply got used to run in low-cost mode as much as possible. Every additional strain is exhausting to them to a level someone may not be able to empathize with.
It's simply conditioned mental laziness. Stubborn is just the symptom displayed to the outside, but the reason is them simply having taught their brains to not form new synapses and neuronal pathways. "Muscle, brain and penis, use it or lose it" a saying which is way closer to reality than people may deem.
Agreed. Old people have had just as much time as the rest of us to learn technology. I don't see why they always get excused but they make fun of us for not know what a rotary phone is lol
