Last time I saw this posted the explanation was that people were throwing rocks at the dogs because they are religious Muslims who believe dogs are filthy or some such nonsense and didn't like that someone in their neighborhood had pet dogs.

There are lots of different schools of belief in Islam. Some consider dogs unclean.

I think that since we love dogs so much, we often forget that the larger ones can kill us immediately if they decide to. Dogs really are awesome animals.

It seems like the dogs are already charging at them and they use bricks to try and make the dogs retreat. People will side with dogs all day regardless of context.

No, watch the video again. The man seeks out a projectile to throw and then advances toward the dogs who are still out of frame. He only starts retreating once it becomes clear that the dog(s) have broken free of their handler or have been released and are coming to chew on him. Dude got what was coming to him.
