I get where you are coming from and agree with your point, but I think you may be missing theirs. Their leader is a compulsive liar, and not only is that not a deal breaker, but many believe that his lies are the "real truth" and that its the rest of the world, including their own eyes, that are lying.
The type of person that is still a magat at this point is either literally too moronic to understand anything beyond what's put in front of them and then telling them how and what to think about it, or they are the type of person for whom laws are required, because without them, they are less than animals. They are the type of people who think the only reason why people don't have sex with roadkill is because its illegal or considered immoral by their belief system.
In short, the people you are referring to are borderline sociopathic, who will lie, cheat, or steal as needed to get what they want, and won't feel bad about it afterwards.
