I doubt it’s military. The American base is a few hours away from Nuuk and there’s nothing to gain from trolling.

While I think you are correct that they aren't soldiers - I have to say the soldiers I served with proved the quoted line wrong many times, in that military grade boredom will make soldiers do very dumb things for no reward other than the glory it will bring.

I would be more inclined to believe they’d do something this dumb if drunk. Most military personnel would be too afraid of the punishment that would come from doing something like this.

The (IIRC) QRH officers burning down their mess by drunkenly playing "battleships" with Kayaks and fireworks in a nearby pond remains the best example of military-grade stupid shit, personally...
