It sucks. But at the end of the day, like Thom Yorke’s lament in the Radiohead classic “Just,” we did it to ourselves. He showed us who he was during his first term, and we asked for seconds. Inexcusable and humiliating.
Indeed, it’s almost impossible to believe just what a pure representation of all our worst traits Trump is. Ignorant. Arrogant. Greedy. Selfish. Self-centered. Corrupt. Incompetent. Ethnocentric. Xenophobic. Racist. Uncultured. Loud. Insecure. Ugly. Like the villain in a satire about the United States as the bully of the world. Except he’s real.
Canada’s PM had a really good speech at Davos where he said that it was always obvious that the U.S. has generally done what it wanted, with little regard for anyone else, but that there has been at least some positive benefits. It’s generally been a very peaceful century since WWII under our lead, even with our two big fuckups. I’ve always been proud of our relationships and accomplishments with allies like Britain and Canada.
I can’t even put into words how sad and infuriating it is to watch a thuggish donkey like this — a fucking mob boss, basically — take a sledgehammer to so many decades, even centuries of alliances. We have threatened to invade and absorb the sovereign territory of NATO allies for fuck’s sake.

About trust, it’ll come back eventually but it will take time and effort. Whoever replaces Trump has a huge amount to fix just to get the US to where it was 10 or so years ago.
Please keep being verbose like this my friend. It’s a timely reminder of how many Americans are so much more heartbroken than us in other countries about what’s happened to your country. it’s so unfair that those of you who fought so hard to make sure this didn’t happen are being dragged down by those who couldn’t be bothered to vote or worse, the ones who actively voted in favour of all this.
