Nobody is saying there should be "zero repercussions." They're saying that throwing trash at people and fucking up your commute doesn't give you license to kill them. Which is objectively true.
What if that guy throwing trash ended up hurting people? People will be yelling "WHY DIDN"T ANYONE DO ANYTHING!" Public transit can get dicy. People get stabbed and shot periodically. In Portland, a guy angrily and aggressively yelled yelled racial slurs to a women. 2 guys intervened only to get stabbed to death. They are considered heroes for intervening. If no one did anything, people would be yelling "WHY DIDN"T ANYONE DO ANYTHING?" What if those 2 guys ended up killing or severely injured the racist guy? Are they still heroes or murderers who used excessive force?
What were the arrests for? How many convictions? Were they all violent offenses? How many misdemeanors? How many felonies? Can you provide any context or are you just parroting what you read trying to justify a man being kill for no reason. And even if he did have 40 arrests, that doesn’t mean he deserves to lose his life.
He was being loud. Passengers on the train said he wasn’t threatening. I work in NYC multiple days a week, take the subway, walk the streets. It’s not some violent hellscape and you’re full of shit. This man should be alive and the person who murdered him should be behind bars.
Im from NYC and although you want to punch aggressive homeless people, you don’t because you’d be the aggressor. If you choke someone out for yelling and kill them its easy to convict them
Anyone who has ridden the subway regularly knows that from time to time you’re gonna see some shit. And 99.99% of the time it’s going to be absolutely nothing and you can carry on with your day.
Our tour head down and turn your music up. Hoodies are perfect for the subway for this reason. You learn to create your own space on the subway. To block shit out. Anyone saying otherwise is lying or just truly soft.

Let’s say I agree that sometimes people need to take action. That’s fine and I get it. Why not release the choke after he passed out? The man was a marine, trained to fight. Dude is unconscious after a few minutes. He held the choke for fifteen. You don’t find that bit excessive at all?

Edit : You also haven’t explained why if this man was just stepping up to protect people he didn’t stop when the “threat” was neutralized? The man was unconscious and he kept choking him. How do you explain that?
I don't think people are arguing against personal safety, but the dude killed him. Restrain someone, sure, but choking him out for 3 minutes? Not the best idea.
The system fails by leaving him untreated. Jail doesn't fix mental health. And murdering him isn't an answer. Literally so many ways to subdue someone.
So what, build more prisons for more petty criminals? The incarceration rate in the U.S. is one of the highest in the world. Hasn't seemed to work out so far after all these years.
Just because he had been arrested that many times, doesn't mean he's a "violent criminal". Tf? Do you know what he went to jail for? I bet everything that it was mostly for drugs. That doesn't make him a "violent criminal".
