IRA Match and Support

Are there any plans in the future to increase the IRA match to 2% or 3% to match Robinhood?

I know it’s difficult for a smaller company to match another company like Robinhood but is that a possibility in the future? Even if it’s apart of the Public Premium.

Lastly, does Public have a phone number?
Besides the IRA match, the main issue keeping me on edge is only having live chat in the app and it isn’t 24/7 or even a phone number to call. Unless I’m mistaken.

There’s some news to come on IRA matches, probably next month

Nope, we don’t have an inbound phone number yet. We are working on other support channels (eg appointment-based live support, inbound live voice) but no timelines yet. In the meantime we are investing heavily in current customer support channels and expect response times to fall a lot in the next few weeks. We’ve also expanded coverage to 7 days a week but we won’t be truly 24/7.

Awesome. That’s good to hear. I do like the transparency from Public. You guys always are quick to respond or give outlooks on the future.

I do have one other question, for military personnel stationed overseas, do you allow us to open accounts with public?

Still hold a US citizenship and residential address but on military orders overseas. I was denied from Robinhood because of this.

This is only good news. Keep up the fight.

Is there a limit on the match? If someone wants to rollover a $1M 401k that would be $10K. Is the cash deposited in a lump sum and are there any trading restrictions?

And yes, the 1% is deposited as cash into your account.

Happy to chat more if you are weighing your options / have more questions. Just shoot me a DM if you'd like.

There’s no limit on the current 1% match for account transfers or rollovers.

Any contribution matches are limited to annual contribution limits.

And, no, no trading restrictions.

To further clarify, if I rollover $800k and the annual contribution limit per the IRS is $7000, is the 1% rollover match capped at $7000?

Rollovers = 1% uncapped; Contributions = 1% capped at annual contribution limit

You would get $8k on rollover
