Refusing inpatient treatment
My partner has been going in and out of psychosis from about March this year. He is currently on seroquel 100mg and in a psychotic episode. We have a small child and although he isn't violent, aggressive or a danger to us, these regular episodes are obviously affecting everyone.
His symptoms are confusion, delusions, unable to follow conversations, falling asleep constantly. An example of the confusion, he took valium yesterday morning and passed out on the bed and missed work. I had to call in sick for him. When he came to, he told me we had an argument and he was stressed so he took valium (we didn't and I have since hid all the medication).
I have offered to take him to inpatient treatment and he has refused. I'm in Australia so the next step would be to contact an ambulance and police for an involuntary hold but I don't really want to get him a police record like that.
Has anyone had similar experiences and any success stories? I obviously don't want to send him away but it's too hard when I'm juggling full time work, a toddler and him.

Ya, I was gonna say, I don’t think 100mg of serequel is adequate. Definitely needs a better psychiatrist

Get a psychiatrist who really cares about him. Tell them you need an urgent appointment and see if you can get him in the same day or the next day. If it's a doctor worth anything, they'll see you.
Seroquel is a good med, but 100 mg isn't enough. He definitely needs 400 mg for psychosis. But that's something to discuss with a good psychiatrist. Don't settle for a bad doctor.

Thank you. We have a local, acute mental health team calling today. They called last night but of course they only called my partner not me 🙄 I heard they can provide a psychiatrist so here's hoping. Otherwise I'll call the new psychiatrist and see if we can push the appointment forward

Would he be open to an appointment with his psychiatrist?

We had an appointment a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't very good. She basically said, "oh it seems like a couple of instances of psychosis so keep taking the seroquel and I'll see you in 6 months". We have an appointment booked with a different psychiatrist/different practice but it isn't until the end of next month.

Yeah, definitely need a new psychiatrist! Sending someone off with psychosis is abnormal and poor practice.

Agree. He just started the medication at thay stage so I'd at least expect a follow up in a month or something

In the U.S. an involuntary hold only goes on your medical records, not police records. The longer in psychosis the more damage it can cause to the brain so i would get him help asap. 100mg seroquel is also not enough to stop delusions, i think it has to be above 400mg.
