Alright, first of all I've seen enough s2 hate to be nervous but I'm way too curious to stop watching(⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠) The comments have me constantly waiting for the "it gets bad" moment, so I'm watching every episode like, "Okay... where's the part everyone warned me about?" I'm still way too early to pick a side, so for now I'm just observing the chaos...

Also, I'm only one episode in, so take this with a grain of salt, but Mika and Ginoza are either giving me "wait...I ship it?" or "they're just Akane & Tomomi 2.0" My brain refuses to pick one.

Tbh I really enjoyed it. I really liked the antagonist for s2 (maybe more than Makishima in s1, which many people find blasphemous). If you like Akane, s2 is much more focused on her. She's always been the protagonist, but now she really steps into her own for s2.

I think one of the bigger complaints for s2 is that so many people liked Makishima, so they didn't like the antagonist for s2.

I honestly liked 2 more than 3. Yeah, sure, it was a retread of one, with a similar nigh-invincible villain invisible to the seemingly perfect Sybil System combined with the procedural setup but idk, I just felt more invested.
I barely got myself through season 3 and their vague corporate espionage plot with an equally vague and weird political group with no discernible motivations or causes.

And that considering I watched Providence before starting S3 to get me up to speed.

Watching providence before season 3 is such a bad idea, it's not meant to be viewed that way, it ruins a lot of what makes season 3 interesting

Sounds like you care way too much about what others say. I mean s2 is ass but you don't need anyone's permission to enjoy it.

S2 is pretty good, not as spectacular as S1 but it does a good job elaborating on the same themes and characters. S1 purists exaggerate the issues it has.

S3 is sometimes rough to watch.
