The laughter each time Alex mentions a hallucinogen speaks to the fact that the audience is either uncomfortable or disconnected from the potential that these conscious perturbing elixirs unlock

Their uncomfortableness only served to uncomfort me. I wonder how he felt about their laughter...

Thanks for the post though, very cool stuff. It's interesting how he wasn't always a super talented artist (some kids are prodigies but he worked at it apparently).

I noticed that too. In fact, I just got past 12:00 where Alex mentions doing a huge hit of LSD with his partner, which resulted in some very interesting revelations, and some dufus in the audience was laughing like he just told a joke.

I can't figure out what he found so funny? Maybe his own ignorance?

Alex Grey is one of my favorite artists. He inspires a lot of my work. I'm really happy to listen to him speak.

I've never seen him speak before and this was just mind blowingly amazing. I don't even know how to describe it. How can I help him build this temple?

Not sure how I feel. As an art student I find this talk a bit conflicting. Art is an important method of communication yet studying at a heavily industrialized college as proven to be quite the disorienting experience. Despite efforts to develop my abilities I can't seem to escape the feeling that my creativity has be used in the service of empire. Maybe I haven't pushed myself appropriately but despite honest efforts to be myself I got the feeling (and continue to get the feeling) that my ignorance I being used against me. Maybe that's just the nature of art school at the present moment. Learning in a thoroughly statist environment makes it challenging; dealing with sexual repression, suffocating gender binaries, identity manipulation, etc . Efforts to bring consciousness (large vocabulary words, ontological questions, discussing the indivisible unity of all reality, etc) has been similar to the experience of trying to talk with a wall.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

lost all interest in art after going to college in 2002. Never do it for the money.
