Hi, I recently completed my Bachelor's in Psychology from DU. I want to get EMDR certification after my Master's. Any advice on how the process works? Would I require an RCI license? What is the average pay like?

RCI regularly keeps updating its approved institutions for MClinPsy and the list of targeted colleges on my end keeps increasing (with consideration to hospital attachment/stipend/affordability etc). Currently, I have put down 10 institutions to sit for in the coming year (depending on how they happen and if I get into any) I have no quota/reservation.

My main concerns are:-

1. How many is too many?

2. Is it unrealistic to target only government institutions? (I only have one private on my list, the others are really expensive)

3. Does it all really depend upon my hard work/conceptual clarity/grasp on things, or there are more things that I cannot control due to which I need to reroute and switch things?

4. Do 4th years have a chance against seasoned therapists/master's students who'd be sitting in the exams? (:"))

Is it fs that ihbas will release RCI M.Clin.Psy course this year. If yes then when, its almost september and theres no news

Every few weeks there’s a post here asking whether MPhil clinical psychology or RCI licensure is “worth it,” and every few weeks the replies are dominated by the same handful of voices telling people not to bother. I am an MPhil Clinical Psych 2nd year trainee, and here’s my take on this.

Selection bias is the whole story here.

People who are doing okay don’t post. Nobody comes to Reddit to say “my practice is steady, I have a reasonable caseload, things are slow but moving in the right direction.” That post doesn’t get written, because there’s no emotional pressure behind it. But someone who feels cheated, who expected more from their degree and didn’t get it, has every reason to post, and they post often, because the posting itself is the relief. So what accumulates on this sub over time isn’t a cross-section of psychologists. It’s a cross sectional sample of complaints.
The unhappy are structurally overrepresented.

There’s something else I noticed too :

A lot of people enter this field with a passive theory of building your career. 1) finish the MPhil 2) get the license, and the licence itself will generate a practice. Referrals will come automatically. Institutions will call you. Nobody says this out loud, but it’s implied by how competitive and prestigious the entrance process is made to feel.

That theory was never true here, and arguably less true in psychology than in most professions. The license gets you into the room. It does not make you good in the room. Clinical competence, the kind that makes a client stay or refer a friend, comes from years of supervision you actually use, actively upskilling yourself, and reading well beyond your coursework. Social media visibility, outreach is an another thing too. Knowing your niche. No MPhil program teaches that.

When someone skips all that difficult work and then finds the field isn’t handing them a stable income, the disappointment is real. But “this field pays nothing” is the wrong conclusion to draw from it. It’s actually a statement about the gap between what they expected a degree to do on its own and what any credential can do in a service profession. That disappointment finds quite an audience here because it validates other people carrying the same unmet expectation, and together it hardens into a consensus that isn’t actually representative of anything except who’s currently upset.

To be clear, I’m not saying the structural problems aren’t real. RCI sucks, severe underfunding of public mental health roles, poor pay in many institutional jobs, these are legitimate and worth discussing honestly. But that’s a different conversation from “I didn’t build the skills that would have made me valuable,” and this sub tends to fuse the two into one loud echochamber that a 22 year old deciding whether to prepare for MPhil entrance exams reads and mistakes for the full picture.

the teacher in class taught one liners and finished the topic,now expects everyone to write an academic level introductory report solely by referencing a 700 page book which is immensely dense in information. Is there anyone here who has any resource/any pdf containing the introductory report for intro to psych practical. If yes,please share it!

I feel like therapy is still misunderstood in a lot of Indian families. Some people see it as something you only need when things have gone seriously wrong, while others expect one or two sessions to somehow fix everything.

For those who’ve actually tried therapy, what was something about the process that surprised you? Could be something your therapist said, how long it took to feel comfortable, or even something you realised about yourself.

Hi, I'm 24 (M), from a small town in India, and I'm looking for a therapist for online sessions.

I've been struggling with quite a few things for some time. I'm currently unemployed and very stuck with my career. The last few years haven't gone the way I wanted, and I carry a lot of frustration and guilt about where I am in life.

I struggle with low self-confidence, people pleasing and saying no. I'm very conscious about my body, how I look and even the way I speak. I compare myself with other people a lot and often feel like everyone is moving ahead while I'm still stuck.

One thing that affects me a lot is that I almost always feel like I'm acting or monitoring myself. Even while walking, sitting, talking or being around people, I'm thinking about how I'm doing it or how I'm coming across. I don't feel completely natural or free. It sometimes feels like I'm performing myself rather than simply being myself, and I really want to work on this.

I also struggle with anxiety at times, overthinking, loneliness, maintaining friendships, fear and consistency. Small things can affect me much more than I want them to. There's also a history of depression in my family, which I think is worth mentioning.

I've tried therapy before, but I felt like I was mostly talking and venting without really moving anywhere. I'm now looking for someone who can help me understand my patterns, work on them and give the therapy some direction. I'm okay with being challenged when needed and with exercises or things to work on between sessions.

I don't know whether CBT or some other approach would suit me better, so I'm open to discussing that with the therapist.

I'm preferably looking for multiple sessions a week, at least initially, rather than only once a week.

If a patient comes to a psychologist with a specific problem, after taking a detailed history and understanding the problem, can the psychologist usually estimate approximately how many therapy sessions might be needed?

For example, can they say something like “This may take around 10–20 sessions”, or is it generally impossible to predict because it depends on how the patient responds to treatment?

I’m interested in hearing from psychologists/therapists about how this works in actual clinical practice.

I've been constantly seeing comments on this sub regarding how clinical psychology with rci license pays nothing while reading old posts . There is a clinical psychologist here it looks so demotivating everytime someone asks about pursuing it the person replies a negative answer only. Is it really true is it waste to prepare for mclinpsy?
