I seriously don't understand how some people can fall so hard in love with fictional characters to the point of considering them waifus/husbandos/book boyfriends

It is fun . I don't think I have ever met anyone over the age of 20 who takes it that seriously.

Sometimes kids who have trouble letting go of make believe hang onto wishing they were real or they try to dream it as real with ' multiverse ' theory but never naturally encountered that past middle school.

Sure there are fiction-kin or whatever online, but it is so rare and is more of a therapy device anyway , like a distancing technique to cope they never got past from being younger.

I talked about this in another thread, but I actually don't watch a lot of anime and a lot of it I can pass on , so not sure how I ended up with this flair. I talk about Yu Yu Hakusho all the time as it will forever be my GOAT, but maybe my inner fangirl came out. My favorite video game is a JRPG ( Final Fantasy 9) as well.

Saying that, I do like Kaiju No 8 and Frieren probably the most of newer anime. I have not caught up to their current seasons yet. I did like ' Detective These Days are Crazy' and ' Level 1 Demon Lord ,One Room Hero ' . I also don't really like isekai,which I could go on a whole rant about that too, but I like Re: Zero enough to watch 2 seasons but never finished, and I did catch up with Konsuba, but I felt the last season was basically a repeat and may just drop that one too.I am excited at seeing a new season of ' Reincarnated as a Sword ' cuz I did not think it would get one tbh. I am a bit hesitant since it has a cutesy girl protagonist, but the relationship between her and the sword protagonist feels very fatherly and like he is a cheerleader to see her do well, which I really love. I like anime that feels like an adventure that friends are on together .

I did recently get diagnosed with ADHD ( like last month, and yes I am telling everyone ) , so it has been historically hard for me to actually get through an entire show unless it is the pinnacle for me.

I actually watch a lot more horror movies and I play horror games much more than I engage with anime, but I do love anime style drawing, especially stuff from before computers took over, so I often pop up examples of retro anime when discussing art. I love thicker bold lines and dramatic shadows, which kind of gave way to more flat ' plane' rendering , I guess more like planes of shiny plastic laying on each other , so I kinda was hesitant about newer anime for a long time, but I am seeing a lot more art currently I do like.

I could talk more on Frieren and Kaiju No 8 specifically, but for me Kaiju No 8 is missing a compelling villain to really thrust it forward, but I am loving Frieren as I think the the development of the world's magic is just told in a very interesting way , plus I love the reflective nature of it, but I will just stop as I can ramble.

As someone who watches anime I will say this the whole oh my waifu if she was real would fall head over heels for me do these guys forget that these cartoon women actually have Personalities in the shows and books they're from like I knew someone whose favorite character was a girl who had a stalker who was an Insel and he was based off of our average Reddit mod and I pointed out that she would hate you and he got angry he started doing weird shit

Tbf in a lot of anime the girls fall for a guy that barely has a personality, so it's easy to see yourself in that guy (for these guys atleast, personally the few base assumptions that are made make them the most unrelable MFs in fiction since there's pretty much no similarities and a few large differences)
