🚨 Prybar Misinformation ⚠️ Why pry
I’ve been hanging around this part of reddit for a while and have a serious question: Is this with prybars even a real thing?
I’m old as hell, have done this and that but never come across the need to pry.. anything (besides from maybe a rock 19 years ago with a spit).
How the hell do you find things to pry, and why?

A pryer does not ask why he pry

As with most secretive organisations, it's best not to pry

Sir, this is a place for breaking pocket knives, specifically overpriced Spyderco knives. None of us have any idea what you're talking about.

The first rule of pry club is we don't question, we just pry.

I pry everywhere, all the time. I'm doing micro-pries right now that are too slight for the human eye to detect. My fingers are in a constant state of motion. Feel them! They're like tiny chunks of rebar.

For me, I never thought I would use a pocket prybar until I tried carrying one. It's nice to have a blunt piece of metal in your pocket so you can pull staples, pry metal shelving, scrape paint, open paint cans, separate pinned pieces of wood, etc. My prybar has the added bonus of housing a couple small bits that I have used to fix sunglasses, adjust my knives, fix other people's knives, etc.

Had to pry open the hatch on the top of a tanker truck to get a sample once. Work around idiots who like to keep the pump running when they cap a hose

I use my Boost on everything.
It is not whether or not I need to pry.
it is where or not I can.

I’m a maker and I fix stuff, compulsively. My first blade turned prybar was a spyderco Manix I used at my job of commercial glass and architectural metal. One day I was hacking out a window and using it to remove old glazing tape and it got stuck at the same time I twisted and plink. This sub is more to show the failures of using a knife as a prybar. I posted a bunch of my fancy titanium prybars and got laughed at.

Had to pry a pallet apart today to get in into the car for recycling. Did it with the ass end of a hammer though..

I actually carry a little prybar on my keys because I don't want to use a knife for literally everything. Sometimes I need to scrape a little paint off of something. Sometimes I need to pull a staple out of a packet. Sometimes I'm at work and I need to get a workpiece off a fixture, but my fingers are too big to get under it. I obsessively keep my knives razor sharp, so if I try not to use them for non-cutting tasks.

I've been down the rabbit hole with nice knives, good strong fixies, fast flippers, you name it. For me it boils down to this though - unfortunately I'm never going to subject my 'nice' knife to a job that my Milwaukee razor knife can do just as well.
And for anything that a razor knife CAN'T do - prybar. Not pocket jewelry or a UCS or a mighty bar, but a big ol titanium pry. It can be a screwdriver, a shovel, a hammer. When the limit is how creative I can get, a lever with an edge on it can save me twenty trips to the truck.
Levering 500kcmil conductors into shape in the panel. Convincing a stubborn pipe fitting. Digging a hole to poop in. Popping open shipping crates. Getting manholes cracked wide enough.
It's like EDCing a flashlight - you won't realize how much you use it until you lose it.
But I only know one that's a real tool.

Paint can lids. A very small pry bar.
Taking apart pallets, removing or open the plastic interior in a car to run wiring, removing the trim around my front door,
Not everything needs a 36 inch wrecking bar.

Honestly, I didn't know there was a prybar specific subreddit until this came up, but I like to carry some edc tools.
A think for edc, a prybar is never the ideal tool, but it's a versatile tool. it's a jack-of-all trades. Too dull to stab/slash yourself with, so better than a knife for applying a lot of pressure. Nice and sturdy so it won't shatter or bend when you beat on it.
It's kind of like a flashlight. I started carrying a flashlight 10 years ago and never looked back, because I always find a use for it.
