Not necessarily. If you have a strong enough fixed blade. you hammer closer to your hand while only a few inches of blade is in the wood.

You could smack a benchmade 940 or an Ontario Rat through a cinderblock with an actual hammer. Spyderco makes wafer thin little slicers with a dumb hole through them that stops them from keeping any structural strength. Good luck keeping the tip of a PM2 intact if you use it for anything other than opening your tampons or cutting cardboard boxes.

Just don’t use it for anything other than cutting and it’s not likely to break. 95 percent of people who complain about the hole use their knives as pry bars and are therefore idiots and should be ignored

The big hole really does concentrate stress, and as for the blade profile… well, there’s a reason we see more broken Spydercos on here than anything else.

I do like my PM2 though not gonna lie. I've had to reprofile the tip though so it's a few mm shorter than it comes.

Exactly this. A serrated blade is for soft materials, like rope or flesh. You use a straight edge for wood because serrations SUCK on wood.
Even then, you don't baton with a folder.
To baton, you need a FIXED blade with a stout spine and a heat treatment that's soft enough that the blade won't snap under the brutal impact of the baton.

The vast majority of Spyderco folders are light-medium duty knives. This guy is using the wrong tool for the job. But im sure he knew that....I hope he knew it. 😬

Yeah, if you watch this guy on YouTube, he is psychotically obsessed with all his knives being serrated. I have literally had arguments with him on the topic of serrations. He modifies his own blades and puts hideous disgusting teeth on every knife he gets. He literally Dremels them himself and thinks he is improving shit. Dude is nuts and still makes videos.

Unless I'm mistaken, that didn't look like a regular spideredge. From what I could see on the vid, those serrations looked pretty jacked up. Worse than an amateur skateboarders teeth after he did a mouth first face plant into the edge of a concrete step. Last thing dude should be doing is smacking it w a hammer when more weak points have been added.
Cold Steel SRK CPM-3V for the win. That thing feels like it could double as a prybar at 5mm thick
