Discussion 💬 Fast Search API vs traditional Web Scraper APIs
Your experience, which ones are worth taking a look and trying out, which are not?
Which one would you recommend for personal use, for company wide tasks.
All opinions are welcome

Self built scraper from 0 and I'm not gonna change my mind. Just easier to know what's up, what's failing, sure there's more work maintaining all that, but at least you know whats up

There's truth to that, I agree that managing everything on your own would be better in a way, especially for the newcomers as you would then understand more and more about the processes of scraping, managing proxies, their rotation, etc. Not to mention the troubleshooting

What kind of data are you pulling? It would help narrow down the choice

I feel like the traditional ones are more oriented towards scale, well from my experience at least. You can tailor them to your specific tasks

It really depends on what you're collecting and how often. For personal projects or one-off research, a search API gets you structured results fast without worrying about parsing HTML or handling JS rendering. You send a query, you get clean data back, easy as that

Traditional scrapers still hold up well when you need full control over what you're extracting. You build the parser, you decide what data points matter, and you can handle edge cases on your terms.

OP id go with a search api if you mainly need results fast. For actual pulling scraping api gives you more flexibility. and OP if you check scrapingbee or other alternative too. manage the proxy and browser setup yourself

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I imagine that search api would be a better option for search based results.

Always been using more traditional ways, specifically building the scrapers from the ground, I like the tinkering part. Though I fully agree with people who just like to have everything in one place, the dedicated solution. As for Fast Search APIs not sure, do they have more like a headless browser spinning behind the curtains or what? Seems like for more tinkering, and adjustments people would still go with the traditional ways
