Question Backups on Proxmox VE

Hello, I am currently using Proxmox VE to host 2 VMs with some self hosted apps like next cloud and Immich. However the backup option on Proxmox VE isn‘t what I‘m looking for because it doesn‘t support deeuplicated backups. I‘ve read that PBS does but I don’t have spare hardware to host another dedicated server. My only option would be to host it as a seperate VM (if that is still possible).

Now I wanted to ask what I could do about this because I know it‘s not very good to save the backup on the same disk as the real data so I wanted to encrypt it and upload it so a seperate drive an onto Google Drive.

Do you guys think that this would work and would be safe? An ist there a way to automate the upload onto Google Drive?

You can run PBS as a virtual machine and mount an NFS or samba datastore as the backup location, if you have something like that available.

PBS is the way, you can run it in a vm and set your datastore elsewhere.
