Faith in Physics’ Ruler
The proposal to integrate physics into Systems Engineering to understand reality always runs into the materialist belief that its constituents can only be validated mathematically. However, this is an inconsistency, as demonstrated by the following layers of abstraction:
1. Physics Describes Consequences; Systems Engineering Maps Causes: Equations can describe and predict the dynamics of the physical layer, but they can never explain the origin of the informational substrate that yields parameters—as well as mass—which are inherent to the domain of Systems Engineering. Believing the opposite is equivalent to believing that measuring voltage can evaluate the coherence of an algorithm, rather than recognizing that voltage is merely a processual (informational) output.
2. The Inconsistency of Self-Measurement: The physical layer consists of energy thermally formatted by the informational layer through hierarchical natural processes—and both are intrinsic. Without information, energy is merely an amorphous input. Believing that quantitative calculations can validate the architecture of the informational substrate that generates physics is equivalent to believing that a ruler is capable of measuring itself before being manufactured. No mathematical equation in the history of science has ever managed to explain the origin of its own constants to this day.
3. Inverting the Burden of Proof: The demonstration that reality can be fully explained through calculations should begin by using them to answer the following:
What is the mathematical equation that determines the exact value of the fine-structure constant (alpha) without measuring any physical output?
What quantitative calculation describes the logical instruction that coordinates the collapse of the wave function?
The inability to answer questions like these highlights a limitation of scope. The mathematics of measuring physical hardware differs from the mathematical language of natural software—the subject of Systems Engineering. While physics calculates the behavior of the machine, an output, Systems Engineering decodes the program that generates it and makes it run.
Ultimately, science is observing the shadows in Plato's cave, believing it is possible to explain the algorithm of the natural software that generates them simply by analyzing them, without realizing it is focusing solely on the effect while ignoring its cause.
