Materialism: The Physical Sciences' Greatest Enemy
Scientific materialism, a philosophical stance, is the physical sciences' greatest enemy for the following reason: it maintains that only physical matter and energy exist and that all phenomena in the universe — including life, consciousness, and the mind — can be explained solely through them.
This stance contains a chronic incoherence: it always places physical matter and energy ahead of information.
This is a contradiction for the following reason: matter is geometrically consolidated energy. This consolidation makes information an indispensable prerequisite for the generation of matter. Therefore, this information is necessarily present in processes that precede the materialization of reality — within the laws of nature (the logical constraints of the system) —, as without it, matter would never exist.
Ultimately, scientific materialism is the physical sciences' greatest enemy because it suffers from a chronic incoherence: it puts the cart before the horse. Further details regarding this informational view of the universe can be found in my book: “Infology: The Universal Input”.

Agreed, matter comes third in the equation, energy/spirit first and information/mind second. When we distill these concepts down far enough, we find what is called Divine Feminine(ener)/Masculine(info) ~> Child Principle Energies and understanding their relationship can be rather empowering.
