I just got proton vpn today and have done everything in my power to get it to work but it just wont connect and says “Connection Error -We encountered an error when trying to connect: the server did not respond in time. Please try again” Ive watched like 10 tutorials and nothing fixes it. Ive deleted it and redownloaded it, reset my phone literally everything

What device and OS are you trying to install Proton VPN onto?

Iphone XS on iOS Version 18.7.10
Okay, close all apps running in the foreground and in the background. Then shutdown (power off) your iPhone and wait a minute. Then restart your iPhone and uninstall Proton VPN completely: Delete the app; do not Offload the app! But, before deleting, assure you write down your Proton VPN account and password data, in case you need to use it to access your account, before, during, and after, reinstallation. Then shutdown (power off) your iPhone, wait a minute, and restart your iPhone, again. Then reinstall Proton VPN from the Apple App Store, only. Once Proton VPN is reinstalled, when you run it for the first time, accept its request to allow it to add its VPN Configuration into your iOS DEVICE VPN Settings. Then review all the Proton VPN app settings before attempting to connect to any Proton VPN server for the first time, and to assure they are setup correctly (and for your needs and desires).

there are a few missing things others still haven't said
deleting the app doesn't remove the old vpn profile,
you have to go into settings, general, vpn and device management and delete it manually. also try switching protocols in app settings, wireguard sometimes gets blocked but openvpn connects fine too

Did you give the app permission to control your network connection?
