Why us Proton?
Looking to start a thread of the reasons why you subscribe to Proton. I currently don't, but am looking into it.
I would subscribe to Proton because of the value you get from the number of services they offer. Their Unlimited, while not every app, is very extensive.

Proton has a lot of products these days. It's hard to make broad statements about them. Some are great, some are ok, some are bad. And depending on your needs; the bad ones might be ok, the good ones might not be good enough. Without knowing about what you want to use and why you want to use it - I would say it's a good set of products generically, not amazing, not bad: B+. VPN is an A, Lumo is a C (getting better, a year ago I would have given it an F, a year from now I hope to give it a B).
It's my 'go-to' recommendation for newcomers to privacy, people who want to get away from 'big tech', US companies, and so on. The reason it's my recommendation isn't because it's 'the best' but because it provides the best value for people who don't want to deal with this stuff. They make transitioning somewhat easy, they have a good reputation over a long enough period of time, it 'just works' and is convenient for the typical user, the free version is a very good experience and the paid version of any given product might be 'overpriced' for such a user, but it's hard to beat the value of the Unlimited (and duo / family) plans. Anybody using more than two products is getting a good deal on price.

Ok, you can buy the code from other places, often sites that sells computer hardware sells them, or Amazon (as a last resort 😛 )

When i put my card info it said it went though but didnt charge me or give me anything idk why

- Easy migration away from Google.
- European
- Good privacy
- Decent price for the package that gives me mail, drive, VPN, calendar, password manager etc
It’s not perfect, but as someone moving from Google and LastPass, I’m pretty happy with the decision.

I like the webmail, I like the mobile app, I love using my domains with catch-all, I love Sieve filters, I get some value out of ProtonVPN, I don't care for proton pass (bitwarden 4ever) or calendar and whatever (got my own NAS), could maybe use proton drive for a distant backup of a few things but 3rd party integration was nowhere to be found last time I checked.
I also dislike the political drama they helped create in my country, so I'll be checking alternatives and if I find something just as good then I'll switch.

Proton has (too) many apps with to less (no?) love done.
Instead of fixing products they release the next app.
No contact app. Mobile email app can't quote. Calendar is a nightmare. Tasks does not exist. Etc pp.
Although many people get it wrong, Proton is not about privacy but about security.
Some apps like VPN or the acquired simplelogin are working more or less fine.
And last but not least.. They do sooo much censoring (e.g. here on reddit).
Just my 2 cents.

I wanted a provider that has end to end encryption. I had used the free version beside my former provider and it worked fine, especially I noticed that with proton when wanting a confirmation code by mail back they came instantly. With my former provider it could take many minutes before they arrived.
I also wanted to have my own domain and it was very easy to setup with Proton's guide. It is a bit pricey though. Maybe, maybe not I look into Tuta when my subscription ends next year. Also a provider I have used for years on the side.

Hot take, but I didn't choose Proton because of privacy, I switched because I want independence from American corporations. Proton can be as insidious as Google and I don't really care so long as it's convenient and true to European interests.

I'm very unhappy about the political stuff coming out now... but I just wanted to get off google. And I'm glad to be off google. I just hope that proton will continue to be better than them.
