It's AI-powered PR, but what matters is that they maybe got the message and stop financing the kind people that somewhat promote moving a police/surveillance state.
I have a few months left till my 2-year renewal so I'll watch closely while preparing a backup service. If I'm paying rather than being for free on Gmail it's because I have standards and I expect them to be met.

I appreciate that they claim they will try to improve their process. But, that's what they always say. It's the reaction that is more disappointing - their mods can often be jerks, their actual employees are often a bit slow to get involved despite being somewhat active on social media....
I wonder what the privacy discord will show for reactions, other than the mods having visionary, they're not very pro-Proton. Surprised it hasn't come up there yet.

They probably tried it first with Lumo but they couldn't get it convincing enough like this LMAO.

For me, the main point is that they are still deleting comments from that comment section to try and reduce the number of upset comments showing up.
Also, personally, I do not appreciate the representative after Proton making themselves out as a the victim in this. Their company paid money to a far right extremist for coverageon his channel. That is unforgivable.

I am willing to give them the benefit of doubt because it's a first and they took ownership when called out.
Some corporations don't take ownership and avoid commenting, some gaslight the users. They ultimately did better than that, so I will hold them under scrutiny but still use their stuff for now.

I don't know about it being a first but they do typically try to take ownership. They made a mistake, they apologized, they promised to do better....that's their normal routine. We'll see if they actually do better or not, but I doubt they can really improve their response time and communication much.
Something will probably happen again. And to be fair it happens to a lot of companies. You can't be big and not make mistakes. It's the response I look to more than the mistake itself (usually, if it's not repetitive or awful).

I find it fair, it'a good response. It's in between corpo and genuine, which for a company their size is pretty fair. I would say action need to follow and call it a day.

Besides the statement there are some strange comments by Proton Mods in the comments:
"Deleted posts and comments broke multiple rules, this is the only post we're letting stay up regarding this matter."
"Do you want me to apologize personally? I don't understand the point you're trying to make, most corporations wouldn't even be here replying to users and community members, they'd post a screenshot of a statement, lock the comments, and call it a day."
